So, yes, she caught me on my way to my evening zoom, and while these days are indeed long, if by meeting with people, discussing the amazing work our educators and support staff are doing in Mt. Diablo Unified School District on the daily, we can advance our overall success in connecting, supporting and engaging our students and their families, I’ll do what I need to as often as I can to make their world better. I know my educator friends and fellow “Essential” workers concur! These are the leadership moments many of us have been building towards for our entire careers! My evening walk with my love and we saw this, looked at each other and smiled. She is busy with connecting to children all day who are lost in a world that is unfamiliar to them and need her reassuring smile and care. She is working to calm the fears of her fellow teachers who have not yet become skilled up with the new technologies that can connect to these children. And, she is also working to calm the fears of parents who feel that they cannot provide for their own children even with the thousands of resources that the internet, social media, education institutions keep pushing out. I am working through the chaos of trying to launch a new space ship into uncharted territories with propellers for spare parts, and trying to calm the fears of educators who are seeking answers to yesterday’s questions. I am working to quell the anxieties of so many caring, compassionate people who are all looking for the “right” answers and yet the solutions will come the more calm we become. Love, care, compassion, grace, more love, and belief that things will be all right, are the ingredients to support our children. Calm in the belief in #resilience #perserverance #future is an essential part of the solution. Remember, wherever you are today, the success you have had, tor goals you have achieved we’re not because of any one week, month or even quarter of school! It was because of the collective growth over time that you experienced and the supports you received through it all! Tough days are here and lay ahead of us. No educator wants to plan for delayed opportunities for children to come to school and receive the exceptional education they deserve, and yet, many members of my team spent the day planning, them adjusting those plans, based on a “Shelter-in-Place” order issued for 8 Bay Area counties! Safety, security in order to #Connect #Engage and #Support all of our students, their families, our employees and our community!
