Mattie was out of practice with the whole dating thing. Maybe closer to the truth was that he'd never been in practice. He'd been in two serious relationships--one that lasted most of high school and one that lasted most of college--and there had never been much time for anything in between when he was always getting into a relationship or getting over one. He’d never really had a first date with someone he wasn't already seriously interested in. It was sort of awkward and sort of endearing, and he was more than a little surprised by how much he'd enjoyed himself.
It was a standard dinner and walk along the beach kind of deal, and once the sun had gone down, they sat in the sand to look at the stars-- Matt probably a little too enthusiastic talking about various constellations and planets that were visible, but that was the risk of taking an elementary school science teacher on a date. He was shy until you got him on a subject he liked (space, bugs, dinosaurs, etc.), and then he could go on forever. "Sorry. I'm probably talking too much." He laughed quietly at the feeling of Jerome's fingers in his hair, unexpected but pleasant. He’d let it grow out a bit since he started teaching, and it was soft and fluffy. "You can-- I mean, if you want to…" Faint red stained his cheeks as he shifted closer, within easy kissing range.
