How to enlarge a picture without losing quality

Tumblr’s default post setting is 500 pixels, and many comic book panels are less then that, so if you try to resize a picture bigger, you’re going to lose quality.

Here is the picture I will be working with:

Now, i don't want that whole panel, I just want the part Harley Quinn is in so I'm going to crop it using our crop tool 

But now we're left with that annoying and distracting part - that I have circled above - from the panel what was on top of it. We can just use our clone stamp tool 

 to fix that.

And now to enlarge the picture go to Image --> Image Size...

A pop-up like the one below should appear. Change the width of the picture to 500 pixels, and the height should automatically change proportionally to the new width, then click "ok"

As you can see, the resized photo is now very pixelated and blurry. So now what you're going to do is make a duplicate of your image by pressing "command + j" on your keyboard and sharpening your photo by going to Filter --> Sharpen --> Smart Sharpen

These are the settings i chose for my picture

There's a great improvement BUT if you look closely at her back, you'll notice its very pixelated.

So now create another duplicate of the original and then go to Filter --> Blur --> Gaussian Blur and then click "ok" 

The blurred layer makes the image too blurry so slower the opacity to approximately 45% or whatever you think looks best.

Just add a PSD over all that and it should look good. Becareful of some PSDs because they can make certain colored stand out and make your picture look even more pixelated .

This should be your final result:

if you're anything like me, i sorta have a little OCD so i take it to the next step.. I'm not satisfied with how the text in the picture looks so what i actually do is white out the text that was there with my brush and i have a comic book font downloaded which i used to retype the text that was already there. THIS was my final result after that step.
