Jellal sits at a table across the guild hall, teacup in hand. " You see anything nice there. I'm curious cause you've been staring for like a solid minute now. " He takes a sip of his tea as he gives a glance of his eyes at Mary after sending the words of telepathy to her.
Mary ended up entirely too focused on Rogue.
It wasn't often that her duties at Lamia Scale ever overlap with another guild, but apparently this time, there would be a brief communication. In person was safest - since it was regarding sensitive information. Collaborations had their perks.
Unpredictably, Mary has missed her dear friend. She was delighted to see him here. Some part of her doubted that they'd be awarded that luck by unseen forces, but he's here.
And as Mary waits for Logan to return from his meeting ( he was substituting just for the next two days ), Mary takes the chance to catch up with Jellal, and discussing what they'd been up to.
Eventually, Mary falls quiet, and her gaze focuses... Elsewhere. Not directly behind Jellal, but somewhat to his left. She sees Rogue step out, and quietly interact with some of his guild mates. Her heartbeat begins to accelerate - but for all of her excitement and delight, it was also agonizing. To have him right there, yet to be unable to even speak to him...
He is so beautiful. The love of her life.
The corner of her lip curls up into a smile involuntarily, but she quickly catches herself and places her fist over her mouth.
Their gazes meet only for a brief moment ( he probably smelled her there ), but the moment is lost the instant she hears Jellal's voice─a little too loud. It startles her, though she manages to barely flinch.
Her eyes focus back on Jellal instantaneously, and she's both... Mortified and relieved that his lips aren't actually moving.
Instead he sips his tea, in perfect, calculated calmness While Mary probably looked like she'd seen a ghost just now.
Heat begins to crawl its familiar way up her face, and the witch blinks rapidly.
Staring? Was she really staring for that long!?
She hides her face behind the hand that she's now resting her forehead against, and it's not the best attempt. At this point, she cannot even maintain eye contact with Jellal. Her gaze falls on the table's surface, pathetically.
"I-I forgot where I was," she laughs the words out, and although she's bluffing, it comes out rather convincingly.
"I have a crush on a few celebrities, sue me!" She lies again.
Mary did indeed have a handful of celebrity-crushes, once upon a time. She now only has eyes for one person. But Jellal doesn't need to know. It would be nice if she ever could share that part of her life with Jellal... But the most important thing now is to protect the integrity of her beloved.
She must lie to him for now, and so she will.
So she gets into character, and begins to kick her feet under the table, while covering her face with her hands. "Shut up! Don't make it obvious!"
