State Champion Records. I guarantee Micah will smile when he sees the name of this label.
Resounding No and the State Champion label are both based in New Jersey. And I would argue there is a definite New Jersey/New York feel at work here. Some of the noise associated with early Yo La Tengo is here, and some of the rocking tendencies of Titus Andronicus are here as well. This is all wrapped in beautiful vocals reminiscent of some of my favorite bands - Grass Widow, Beaches, and Value Void. That list could go on and on.
This is a cassette only release. The State Champion website has a bit more information on releases and a few items that don’t appear on their Bandcamp page. I would recommend listening to Clown Sounds.
