I wish people stopped calling bad writing fanfiction.
Want me to tell you a secret? Bad writing existed long before fanfiction.
In fact, calling things like the newest adaptation of Wuthering Heights fanfiction is insulting to fanfiction. There are really three differences:
1) Fanfiction is free. We don't take your money to dump our bad writing upon you. We don't make money out of your expectations. You don't have to pay for reading things we sometimes spend years creating.
2) Fanfiction is impossible without 'fan'. We usually have respect if not love for the source material AND fellow fans. I don't say there are no hatefics or crackfics. And there are also character bashing fics and different interpretations and AUs. But most of that is in the name of good fun and sharing with fellow fans.
3) I've read a lot of fanfiction that's way better than the trash they publish and film nowadays. So it's really offensive when your work becomes a synonym for bad quality when actual garbage remains 'published works'.
Also, if you're comfortable to compare the quality of what a heartbroken 15-year-old writes between her classes to what a team of adult professionals produces, that says something about you.
So really, if saying 'bad writing' is so tiresome (because it's two words and not one), come up with another name. Stop insulting people who generously share their in most cases above average stories for free and with genuine care about the community.
Thank you.
No because I didn’t ask for criticism.
Hi everyone!
I hope you’ve missed me, cause I’ve missed you guys so so very much!
As much as I wish this post right now was something sweet to get back into it, unfortunately it is not. Don’t worry though, I am going to send out an announcement within the week that is much happier and full of information you all will love!
This post specifically is because I apparently have to repeat information I’ve covered multiple times already. When I say do not send me more than 5 requests a day, I mean it. It is extremely overwhelming and it drains me to see you filling up my inbox without any consideration for my time. Which therefore causes me to not want to write here, extending my breaks, which no one wants. I don’t want to not write for tumblr, I love writing here, and people want to read the requests I make. They won’t be able to do that if I decide it’s too much.
Im going to show pictures and a screen recording of the requests sent today from one singular person.I’ve only got requests from this person. They have done this before, but they weren’t anonymous, and that’s how I know it’s the same person who did it last time because it’s the same character each time (and how they separated each one sentence prompt into a separate request)
I don’t understand why some of you guys believe it’s okay to do this AFTER an author tells you multiple times in their own announcements and to your personal messages that it’s not.
I am not a robot. I don’t know why anyone would send a request saying “request where [blah blah] happens”. I am a person, just like you, and this all stresses me out.
If you do what this person has done and I know who you are, I will tell you to stop one single time. If you do it again, you will be blocked. I don’t want to block anyone, I don’t. I want everyone yo enjoy content and feel comfortable and happy to read whenever they want, and to be able to request. But if you actively refuse to understand why I need you to not do something like this, you will have to be blocked for my comfort and for the account as a whole.
Thank you for reading this announcement, happier news is on the way.
DO NOT REPOST WITHOUT PERMISSION
It’s that simple. If you do not have explicit permission from the artist or author to repost someone’s art, DO NOT DO IT!
@nikitajobson ‘s fanart has been post on tik tok numerous times and I’ve tried to raise awareness that they do not want this to be happening and I’ve told people it’d be wise to respect their wishes and take down their posts, and yet people like to respond with shit like this. ⬇️
“none had permission from the artist...i mean at least it’s going around and it’s popular. that’s what I’d be happy about if i was an artist🧍🏼♀️”
If that ^ is your mentality, you disgust me. Learn to respect artists and their wishes. That is all, Happy New Year.
A Quick PSA on how not to treat an author and their comment section
I’ve had this reader for a few months now popping onto several of my stories and making comments exclusively about Klance that make me uncomfortable because, as anyone who has read my works knows, I do not ship Klance.
Things like talking about them being soulmates, kissing, kick, etc. and it always made me upset because that obviously was not what the story was about and I don’t support that ship. I just quietly deleted that person’s comments rather than confront them as who knows, maybe they didn’t actually realize despite all my fics being gen or nods to Allurance, I didn’t ship it (given the majority of the fandom does).
But I got this comment below this morning along with two others from this reader all yelling to me about Klance and soulmates in my comment section on various Battlefield stories: (*they had already deleted their comment by the time I took screenshots so this one is from my email)
And it became immediately clear to me that this person did actually know I didn’t write or support Klance and yet felt the need to continue to comment exactly such. It felt very dismissive of me, of my writing, and it made me even more upset.
I decided to finally respond to them, as obviously they aren’t going to change their behavior unless they know there is an issue and I can’t expect them to mindread, even if a little observation on their part as to what ships I do and do not write and therefore support would have made this a non issue whatsoever.
So I submitted the response below explaining how I felt about their comments and how it made me feel sick, and I thought that would be the end of it; perhaps an apology or even in the future a more considerate, more appropriate comment.
However, as you can see by their response... no. And that is why I am posting this thread here. See below:
Their response was honestly what I should have expected given their comments, but it still threw me. I explained myself, explained why I did not like them posting certain things and how it made me feel, and they only immediately took offense, attacked me back (and I still am wondering what level they mean, because they did certainly not rise to it xD) and then, cough snort, threatened me about kudos of which y’all know how I feel about those anyway. Believe me though, if they could remove them so I didn’t have to see their name on any of my stories I would have appreciated that.
And this no longer became a matter about shipping but about RESPECT.
The point being, when an author asks you to respect them and their stories please do so. People and comments like this do nothing for anyone except hurt creators, who were only trying to share their creations.
This holds true to if an artist draws a ship you don’t like and you feel the need to comment “cute art, but I don’t ship it.”... Just keep it at the “cute art.” I don’t run around posting on stories “this would be so much better if it was Allurance, this Klance is stupid and it should be platonic instead” because I respect that creator and their choices. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. If you don’t like it, don’t comment on it. And if a creator does ask you to please reconsider what type of comments you post, then please do so. It’s so disrespectful otherwise and so very hurtful.
Thank you for listening ♥
having a rough day and going to read one of your “security blanket” fics only to find it’s down because some asshats were so horrible to the author...
And being enraged both at the aforementioned asshats who are the reason we can’t have nice things and mad at yourself for not saving the works you love so much....
sigh.....yeah....been one of those days....
It’s so damn interesting how the trolls jump right to aggression instead of trying to offer any sort of explanation.
Yes. I will block you for “just asking a question.” Especially when you know you shouldn’t and you do it anyway… just to be a troll.
