i’ve been slowly but surely watching more hockey and there’s just something about how all sport is silly and made up but when it’s a sport you grow up playing or watching or even just with a strong cultural awareness of (e.g. v little baseball or american football in the uk but there’s soooo many american shows or films where it features) you can kind of suspend your disbelief but like… with the hockey i just can’t i’m like who invented this, who realises they’re good at this, you’re on the ice with your buddies, your hitting a little thing around, you’re allowed to try and bodily flip each other head over heels like what the actual fuckkkk is going on here
#heated rivalry#ice hockey#now i will say in its favour#there are sports that are fun to watch without a deep knowledge of strategy and rules#and sports that really aren’t#like football (soccer) is to my mind so accessible#you know immediately based on vibes what’s happening#but cricket????#i went to a game once and after the first team had batted i turn to my husband like#so they got X number of runs is that good?#and he’s like#well it all depends on the quality of the pitch#respectfully NO#but anyway i think hockey is easy to follow with only a bare bones understanding of the rules#the play flows pretty freely and the scoring system is v straightforward#so i’m ultimately having a great time
