That's part of the problem Frank. No one wants to be themselves anymore. Internet, social media, goddamn talent shows for assholes. Everybody wants to be somebody else. Nobody's happy to just look at themselves in the mirror and see themselves. That means they don't have to be responsible either.

Responsibility

I love the idea of responsibility revolving around caring and compassion towards the greater community.

This ties into everything that is important in life, becoming a kind, caring, and accountable adult who respects their friends, family, community, and materials they use.

I think Genius Hour is such a beautiful opportunity for inquiry and also allows students to exemplify their good decision making. Giving kids freedom to explore and express themselves is very important for their future success - but I think we still have to monitor and guide students towards making better choices for themselves in a way that doesn't shame them.

I feel that shame has been used too often in education, as a classroom management tool. If we spend more time building student confidence and self-esteem, we will have similar results with a more positive outlook.

I love reaching to my friends who are teachers, who are from all walks of life, to learn about their experiences. What's worked in their classes, what hasn't - and seeking to try new activities, games, and behaviour management redirection.

I overall am pretty responsible, but sometimes take short cuts. I could focus a little better on self-care, because I think it impacts my overall health which in turn impacts my schooling.

Sometimes you need to hear "I'm proud of you"

I go through periods where I shut down and it shows in my everyday life bc I barely do anything productive. I'm still pulling myself out of a funk I was in for a while. I'm getting a lot of shit done, taking on a lot of responsibility. I'm the editor-in-chief of the yearbook committee and I've been annoying the assistant principal for a letter he needs to write for it, I never talked to him the past 4 years but I've talked to him 4 times this week already. I picked out and customized all the souvenir stuff for prom and am basically in charge of it too. I'm planning a limo for my friends for prom and trying to round up all the money right now. The point I've been trying to make is that I'm doing a lot of things that need to be done well and quickly and I'm getting it all done. My friend Johanna just told me she was proud of me and it warmed my heart bc people rarely tell me that, especially people I'm close to. Some friends I'm closer to don't even tell me things like that when I need to hear it. I'm lucky to have her in my life and I wish I could just hug her and help her solve all her problems she has going on.
