I wanna read your new fic 👀 with Omota Uramichi but I'm not familiar with him and was wondering if I could get a crash course on him 👀 you're also more than welcome to tell me to fuck off and watch the anime 😂

Hello! Thank you for giving me an excuse to talk about him ♡

Uramichi's a former professional gymnast turned children's show exercise/games host for Together with Maman! (which is kind of like a PBS type of show). He's often forced to wear ridiculous costumes for work that show off his bangin' body. The show runners turned his night terror demon into the show's mascot.

He's depressed. He drinks a lot. He has a mental breakdown nearly every day on set when the kids clown on his single, 31 year old ass. People find it difficult to recognize him on screen vs. in person since he goes from a peppy, outgoing TV host to a burnt out millennial.

But despite it all, he just keeps on trucking.

Beneath his jaded exterior is someone who is kind and often does his best for the sake of others. His self-esteem just isn't high enough to see all of the good qualities that he possesses.

It also doesn't help that the manga-ka (Gaku Kuze) draws the entire cast in AUs and posts them to Twitter. He often draws Uramichi as a tsundere with dom tendencies 🥵

If you get the chance though, I highly recommend watching the anime, especially the dub! It's a pretty chill and funny show.

I did. I wanted to take the story in a different direction than I originally plotted, so Where Daybreak Strays has temporarily ridden off into the sunset!

I wouldn't worry about robin Jason. The writer posted that they see Jason as the Robin with the most connection and empathy for the people living on the streets of Gotham. Also called him a little sweet boy. We can see if there is more but there might be some unreliable narrator stuff since the flashback is adult Jason commenting on how he perceives things now.

Good to know about the writer's feelings about Jason! I read the webtoon in a hurry after an exhausting stretch of work, and mischaracterizations of Robin!Jason are usually a huge red flag for me in writing.

Also great point about adult Jay being an unreliable narrator. For me, I originally read that as Bruce saying those things as facts from his memories ("I can't change your heart."). I do wish we (as in DC) could deviate from that and have him remember things as they were though!

I skipped ahead and read episodes 4 - 6 and still have some questions about where Jason's character is going. I'm being hopefully realistic though in my expectations that it'll be a fun ride but probably a watered down version of the character (not as bad as WFA though). And I know it can't be worse than Titans!Jason lol.

I think the opening highlights the real reason they fell apart. Jason already loved his city but he also saw the flaws in it and ask Bruce real questions about how it had failed people like him and his family. Bruce doesn't actually address his questions and just tells him he to love the city. Jason says he loved being Robin until he didn't. In his run he saw how Batman and the justice system still constantly fail to help people and Bruce didn't fix that he focused on Jason's reaction to it.

i get what you're saying. I think if they rearranged the introduction, it would have made a bit more sense to me and I would have read it differently. In the original sequence, I read it as:

Bruce telling Jason to be compassionate (can't tell if it's as a reminder or as teaching him a lesson)

Jason questioning the justice system

Bruce saying that he can help him fight crime physically but that's not part of his mission

Jason's seeing the role of Robin as a way to control crime through physical violence

Bruce telling Jason that if he wishes to conquer crime in Gotham, he might lose himself

IMO, it would be better if Bruce has his lil spiel about being a warrior, Jason using Robin as a means to fight crime, Bruce saying that if he gets caught in trying to control all crime that he might lose himself, then Jason questions the justice system and Bruce's methods. Also as different scenes during Jason’s tenure as Robin instead of it being a same-night conversation on the gargoyle.

Oh no, do not be impressed because I could only understand 10% of that without the help of Google Translate lol. I only speak English and bare minimum medical Spanish and German.
