@restingnurseface: I think given the fact that it’s another Adam Driver character that he is playing, those who may/may not know of the case against Jacques Le Gris, it could make sense as to someone being “interested” in being paired up with him. That being said, along with the influence of “knight in shining armor”, I wouldn’t immediately go from 0-to-100 on someone who would request as such, but that’s just me.
Given that I knew prior to the news of the film, I recall having deep discussions and looking at historical records (as well as academics’ opinions) to whether Jacque Le Gris was indeed innocent or guilty of his crimes. I think it’s easy to say that people (authors, artists, etc) ideally romanticize the story and case, which I personally don’t always approve of - recalling the case of Anastasia Romanov, RMS Titanic, Boleyn Sisters... - but it also could influence the audience to look further into the truth.
I just hope that this film takes proper care of this historic piece of French history, because it really does influence the type of court system they used and handled with people of such nobility, presentation and with the codes of knights. Either way, looking at the fact that it’s based off of the novel by Eric Jager, I have some doubts...but then the photos of the “armor” with its timeline is making me kinda iffy.
