I keep imagining a scenario where Whumpee’s gotten a limb trapped in some kinda magical thorny vines. They’re struggling and writhing and lashing and clawing to get free as the vines keep spreading
They start using their teeth to chew/tear their way out, and it’s painful, but! Kind of working!
But then. A pulse of magic, and crack! They grow *exponentially* fast, the vines ending up growing into their nostrils and throat, or covering their whole face, and just the unrestrained *panic* of being unable to breathe
Bonus points if there’s someone with them, who is trying to help and also panicking more once things go wrong, knowing that them actually *dying* is likely if they don’t get out *right now*, witnessing them struggle and not being able to do anything about it
Alternate scenario:
Similar concept, but there’s a sharp thing nearby, pulse of magic comes before they start biting
As vines get closer to Whumpee’s neck, either Whumpee with an arm still free or another character nearby realize its life or limb now, having to steel themselves to try and hack off that limb for freedom, since the other vines are too thick/magical now to cut through
Can they get themselves to go through with it? Can they stop the bleeding after?
If it’s another character having to do it, seeing Whumpee’s terrified eyes as they pick up the blade aaaa
Or!! Being unable to go through with it, afterwards living with the guilt that they couldn’t get themselves to save them despite being *right there*
