No pressure to respond, just wanted to share
Imagine: (tw for trapped, controlling dynamics, torture, death, betrayal, guilt, self-harm)
Whumpee with power to turn back time, tho only to an extent, every time they die
Setting is like, a prison-like place by some kind of Organization (tm) where there’s a bunch of other Whumpees
Whumpee and some of their their friends/family/cell mates try again and again to escape, but they’re outnumbered, outmatched, and more often than not someone’s seriously hurt or dead. (And if they’re not the one that dies, purposely trying to agitate a guard enough to kill them so they can go back)
At first, Whumpee desperate to find a way out, especially since they have the power to keep trying, but eventually…they feel it’s hopeless. That trying again wouldn’t be worth it, if it meant that they couldn’t all leave together and safe
Maybe at the point in time they go back to, they realize people were already catching on to their escape plan.
And so, knowing the potential punishments that await otherwise, Whumpee admits the plan to Organization (tm), hoping to lessen the punishments, to their loved one’s horror
Maybe Whumpee begins being super compliant, or feeds Organization info about other Whumpees or traitors within that they’ve learned in their time loops, maybe even actively sabotages other’s escape attempts, all in an effort to prevent the death/serious injury they’ve seen in their other timelines
Maybe they even start being respected by the Organization, climbing up the ranks, gaining more power, which simultaneously lets them protect+give more comforts to their loved ones, while also terrifying/further betrayal feeling due to more power to stop them and working with the people who hurt them in first place
Whumpee kind of becoming a Whumper themselves, in a sense. Maybe it’s as their role in preventing loved ones escaping, maybe it even goes as far as harming/killing other Whumpees to keep Organization’s trust enough to keep their own loved ones safe
Very tasty angst wether they tell their loved ones about the power or not
-tell: trapped, trapped, trapped. The horror of someone you care about deciding what they think of best for you, without your input, and you know there’s not much you can do about it. Not only the imposing resources the Organization has, but now their own loved one and *time itself* are keeping them trapped
-don’t tell: someone you loves knows so much that they shouldn’t. And the whiplash of them from one moment helping plan things, to the next turning against everyone. Doubt of, were they ever on our side to begin with? Why are they so different now what????
Both ways, the shattered trust and having to look at Whumpee-Whumper knowing that their hands are stained. Knowing that their closest ally was now their biggest obstacle to freedom
And! And what happens when rescue does come? And for one reason or another, time powers stop working? Crushing guilt about anyone they potentially killed, preventing them from sharing this freedom. And like…all their closest relationships, what do they do about that now? Hurt and love and grief and aaaaaaa
