•Sacrificial Lamb• Mary & Balthazar
Mary had been focused on the baby while Balthazar was gone, bouncing him gently and singing to him. She looked up when she hears wings, frowning when she sees Balthazar immediately going to the trash can. She followed him over, resting a hand on his back and gently pulling him close to her, shifting the baby so Balthazar could rest his head on her shoulder. She knew any violence against children always hit him hard.
“I take it he doesn’t have parents then,” she asked gently after a while, stroking his hair. She looked down at the baby cradled against her. “Little John Winchester.”
He cleanses himself with a thought and slouches into the warmth of this strong, loving woman’s shoulder. She’ll love this child, he knows that as surely as the sun rises, love him as she has loved her own, and he’s so proud, so proud. He scoffs at the name suggested, shakes his head, looks to the child.
“A middle name, perhaps. He ought to be Micah or a Maddox. Gift from god and little fortunate one, respectively,” he notes. “Micah John. Maddox John— doesn’t go well together. Let’s see... Hadrian perhaps, or Alexander?” He brushes a gentle finger over the tiny lad’s rounded cheek. “She created him specifically for sacrifice,” the angel whispers, a confession. “I... I can’t imagine making that choice. He deserves to be loved, to be joyful, to triumph over her horrific plans for him.”
