Guide me, safely, gently on.” - unknown author It never amazes me how relentlessly beautiful every piece of Alaska is. Resurrection Pass is my now my favorite hike to-date. I cannot begin to tell you everything that I experienced, but here’s a sampling: A sensational grizzly bear encounter, pristine creeks every other mile, foraging opportunities for morels, fireweed shoots, and fiddlehead ferns, world-class cabins, alpine lakes, solitude, and mindfulness. To summarize, you will witness nearly all the types of terrain, ecology, and vegetation that Southcentral and Southeast Alaska has to offer, while providing a hardy, but achievable, challenge to novice backpackers. I really enjoyed spending every minute in the wilderness by myself on this trip. I was able to journal, meditate, and achieve most of the goals I set before leaving. I had an epic time at Chitina River, fishing with the locals. I’ve never worked so hard for one fish; I’m still sore from scrambling around with a 10 foot dipnet that weighs about 30 lbs. But, it was CLASSIC Alaskan fun. For my next adventure, I’ll be hiking #resurrectionpass over the next six days. I will be video blogging start to finish about all things related to backpacking, including: packing a bag, rationing food, living minimally, and having fun in the wilderness. I’m excited to scout the trail, and maybe even offer it as a guided backpacking trip afterwards.
