having read the epilogue, glanced at some old fic, and given it a bit of thought, may I propose the optimal relationship: Terezi♣️John♣️Vriska - definitely flipping around quadrants because the girls are always like that and John will probably never fully grasp troll quadrants, and exact lines are overrated anyway, but settling roughly as clubs in this arrangement.
I call it the Scourge-Dweeb Club Sandwich.
They’re the meteor crew - And Vriska
They’re the meteor crew - And Vriska
Some of them sarcastic, the others are lewd - And the other one’s Vriska
And this, everyone, might explain why there was no noticable butterfly effect following the retcon, through which the smallest of changes led to separate timelines in A1, A2, B1 and B2.
Only the big changes mattered and propagated.
What didn’t, were things like Karkat not making an off-hand remark to John about shooshpapping Gamzee.
Or going back to Earth to join up with a Dirk and Roxy from future Earth. There weren’t suddenly two Earths, one visited by Tavrosprite!Jane, one by Tavrisprite!Jane. Because if there were, there would also be two versions of Calliope and Caliborn, each pair of siblings talking to a different Dirk and Roxy in Earth’s future. And so on and so forth.
I just love him a lot
Retcon impact
I was just thinking about how far back the effects of the retcon of the 3-year trip reach, and when the timeline effectively splits off from the original one.
So a meteor with a new set of B1 Derse Dreamers and A2 trolls enters the B2 session.
But wait! There's more.
Vriska travels back to the start of the B2 session to create Tavrosprite and meets Jane.
But wait! There's more.
Tavrosprite!Jane, after manipulation by AR, goes to Derse, gets killed, gets revived as her dreamself, and goes to Earth.
But wait! There's more.
In the future of the Earth that Tavrosprite!Jane appears on, Dirk and Roxy live. These two have been talking with Jane and Jake since their early childhood, sometime between 1996 and 2011.
But wait! There's more.
Dirk, Roxy, Jane and Jake have been talking since their early childhood with cherubs in what may be another universe entirely.
But wait! There's more.
Roxy has appearified what she thought was her mother's cat from B2, 314 days, 16 hours, 13 miutes and 14 seconds before Rose witnessed the event in the Skaianet lab.
But wait! There's more.
Rose, along with her friends John, Jade and Dave, would go on to have contact with the A2 trolls at the end of their session.
But wait! There's more.
Gamzee never had that conversation with Doc Scratch, in what we'll assume is Alternia's far future, around the time that the Midnight Crew intermission ended and Slick is on his way to Scratch' apartment.
But wait! There's more.
Doc Scratch holds captive the A1 version of Damara, who grows up to be the Handmaid, who'll be a plague on Alternia for close to its entire recorded history.
But wait! There's more.
Teen Handmaid has a run in with Lord English, and so will the Condesce after finishing off ancient Handmaid. Lord English goes on to become the scourge of Hussiespace, and of the Furthest Ring.
But wait! There's more.
The Furthest Ring is full of Horrorterrors and the concept of space and time does not even apply to that realm, so who really knows how far the influence of John's retcon on a stupid Veil meteor even reaches, effectively.
My two cents on John’s effects on alpha/doomed timelines are as follows. They're mostly me gathering my thoughts on the matter.
Looking at the events starting from Act 5 Act 2, we can determine there could be in total at least 5 "timelines"/realities at play:
pre-retcon alpha timeline with ring and ghost Vriska ("Griska")
pre-retcon timeline doomed by Vriska going to fight Jack ("Briska")
pre-retcon timeline doomed into Game Over by Aranea
post-retcon ringless alpha timeline (the one where John jumped to the "R3UN1ON" and took the ring on LOMAX)
post-retcon saved Vriska alpha timeline
The pre-retcon alpha / post-retcon ringless alpha (which for a lot of intents and purposes is the same thing) has been theorized by several people to be the timeline that led into the creation of Universe C.
I'm not sure if it's possible. It depends upon how Paradox Space is handling all this canon-level rewriting going on.
If John's powers make it so that what he does is always "supposed" to have happened, that may mean that both the Game Over timeline and the Briska timeline still exist, both as doomed offshoots which were only doomed because no John appeared in those timelines, which was the new "supposed to happen" event defining what the alpha timeline is.
And if there's a post-retcon doomed timeline with a ghost Vriska in the Furthest Ring, well then everything from her perspective could've taken place just as it were before the retcons. With the difference being she isn't the real alpha, and her sending doomed copies of herself to their double death has become doubly ironic.
We’re going to start memorizing and reciting passages from the Aeneid in Latin class soon, one person per day starting on April 13th, and every stupid Homestuck bone in my body is insisting that I go first with the part where Aeolus looses the winds.
