You watch as Patches rips apart a roc with his bare hands.  The Pulse lies heavy around him, cloaking him in a red haze.  There’s no telling when he’ll stop.  You just know you have to be here when he does.  “Apparently you were wrong,” you say, and set up a chair.

Patches patted the piano and grinned.  “Howdy - you’re just in time.  Fixed ‘er up, got her tuned, and put the finishing touches in.  Give ‘er a spin, see if you like my work.”

Echo rolled her eyes at him, but went ahead and flipped the switch next to the keys.  A puff of steam released from a vent in the side, and a chipper ragtime piece started up.  “You made it into a mechanical piano!”

“That I did, doll.”  He swept her up.  “Care for a dance?”  Blue eyes sparkled with amusement, framed by fairy lashes around one eye.  He spun her around and they both laughed, falling into familiar steps.
