I’ve played around with the cropping on these images, you can actually view the full images via my website, just follow the link in my bio to be directed to my website. But what I wanted to talk about today, seeing as we’re going for tighter crops, is editing. Very recently we’ve seen a boom in retouching, and it’s controversies, with retouchers still going to extreme extents to create ‘perfect skin’ and bodies that are unrealistic. Recently I’ve started investing in pro tutorials to educate myself on editing as naturally as possible. Tutorials from @proedututorials @solsticeretouch @shotbypratik and @michaelwoloszynowicz have been invaluable and improved my editing to no end. The one most poignant message I took away from these tutorial was to shoot as accurately as possible for your desired effect so that when editing you retain as much of the original image as possible without having to blast the image with hundreds of techniques. We don’t want to completely change the person or have to take away or add shadows, we subtly and delicately enhance what’s there and add flow to shadows, highlights and tones. Most importantly, though, is the use of airbrushing (or liquify in photoshop terms). When first starting in photoshop I was taught that this tool was to be used minimally and mostly on clothing that looks out of place.
