It's time for the students to return to Hogwarts after winter break, but it's not just them who are invited back to the castle. On January 12th, all members of wizard society are invited, or rather politely demanded, to be present at the memorial service for Baudouin Polignac, the last fallen member of the Wraiths. He, alongside all other victims among the organisation, will be publicly remembered.
Of course, nothing is exactly as it seems with an event like this. It's a ploy to sway any neutrals towards the Wraiths’ cause, to put up an act, to show that they are the victims here. Naturally, they don't mention all the fallen wixes and muggles at their hands because when has propaganda ever been objective? The evening also functions to show all adults what the state of Hogwarts is, now that they have taken over, and in a second part of the evening, the Wraiths present the new curriculum to all attendees. It's a show of power, of flexing the influence they have, the control they have over the wizarding world's children.
But here's something the Wraiths forgot: bringing everyone together presents a great opportunity for spying, smuggling and sabotaging. With so many people present, it's to be expected that those who oppose the Wraiths have their own plans, and are more than willing to use this situation to their advantage.
And use it, they do.
During a speech in which Baudouin Polignac is painted as a model student, a whistle is blown. Soon after the signal, the surroundings of Great Lake where the crowds are gathered turns dark, due to some handy Knights-spellwork. The Knights, in collaboration with the Order, set off fireworks, bright colours exploding across the dining hall. The fireworks spell out words among which ‘REMEMBER NEVILLE LONGBOTTOM’, ‘JUSTICE FOR THE KRUM-WOODS’, ‘WE DO NOT MOURN MURDERERS’, ‘THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX IS STILL RECRUITING’ and ‘JOIN THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE’. There are other names spelled out, from people who have fallen at the hands of the Wraiths, who are not remembered tonight.
In retaliation, the Wratish round up a handful of people who are seen with their wands raised. Some are guilty of producing the fireworks, others just wanted to cast Lumos, and are made into scapegoats. Examples. They are dragged off into a side chamber, not seen again, and everyone is left wondering what will happen to them.
While this isn’t what they planned, the Erinyes decide to use this chaos to spread the flyers they brought, scattering them through the hall. The flyers are headlined ‘The Truth about Baudouin Polignac’ and detail how a younger student died, Elijah and Samiya Krum-Wood’s younger sibling, at his hands, showing a very different person than the model student the Wraiths had been describing in their speeches. Like the Knights, they tell their readers to remember Neville Longbottom, and the flyer ends with a promise: ‘Justice. WIll. Be. Served.’
The Wraiths who are present among the attendees, meanwhile, use their time trying to overhear any plans. With the new developments, they also try to figure out who are behind these rebellious actions, wanting their list of suspects to grow. They function more as passive spies, snakes in the grass. The same goes for the Archangels, who are quietly present, eyes and ears sharp. This is not the day they will make their first move.
After the memorial is wrapped up and the rebellious atmosphere has died down, the new Hogwarts administration takes over the stage, to inform all attendees about the new curriculum. Those loyal to them - the Wraiths - will be taught Dark Arts while other students are re-educated. That much is necessary after more than a century of poor headmastership according to them. Students suspected of taking part in rebellious activity will furthermore be placed under academic probation and will have to attend extra classes. Refusal to adhere to the rules will also lead to more severe punishment than point-taking and line-writing from now on. To ensure the safety of the school, there will be more security measures taken.
Amidst all this, the Order is working hard to install passageways, to ensure that students can leave the castle when things get dangerous. Every now and then, a member slips out of the Great Hall - to go to the bathroom - to work on this covert mission. They repair the vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement, protect and reinforce the tunnel in the Room of Requirement that leads towards the Hog’s Head, and make sure to hide multiple illegal portkeys. They have also given the Knights several two-way mirrors and handheld portkeys disguised as ordinary objects, so they can distribute them among the students to allow them to communicate without having to use owls and escape the castle when necessary.
But this evening isn’t just a win for the Order and Knights - the Wraiths also managed to add some more names to their list of suspicious individuals and managed to spread more propaganda and fear.
EVENT DETAILS
The new Hogwarts curriculum:
All student organisations need to be approved by the new registration. This includes Quidditch teams.
Muggleborn students will receive separate education that “suits their skill level better”. This will lead to their wands being revoked, but that isn’t yet explicitly stated. This means that contraband wands will have to be snuck into the castle and given to muggleborn students.
The re-education classes are mainly propaganda. They include revised history classes (which focus on how muggles forced wixes into the shadows and the “many war crimes” committed by the Order of the Phoenix) and magical theory classes that go into why muggleborns should not be allowed to use magic.
Academic probation could lead to expulsion, which doesn’t mean a student gets to return home, but rather to Azkaban.
All mail will be monitored from now on, meaning that students will have to be very careful about what they say in their letters.
There will be no more Hogsmeade weekends.
Detentions will become more severe, especially for those suspected of being part of the Knights or Erinyes. Think along the lines of the discipline used by the Carrows or Umbridge during Deathly Hallows and Order of the Phoenix. The details aren’t specified just yet but will be revealed in the coming weeks.
To ensure the castle’s safety, there will be more security present, in the form of dementors and Wraiths-loyal Aurors, security guards and caretakers. These measures are mostly to make sure that students can’t get away and Order members can’t get in.
How students will be able to leave campus:
If the student is a Wraith or Wraith supporter, they will be able to leave campus without a problem. They can simply sign out and sign back in.
Any other students will not be permitted to leave campus under any circumstances. However, the Order of the Phoenix have set up ways for students to escape the castle if necessary.
The Order of the Phoenix have given the Knights several two-way mirrors and illegal portkeys disguised as ordinary handheld objects to distribute among the students. These two-way mirrors will allow them to communicate with Order members, and the portkeys will send them to various Order safehouses around the country. If you would like your character to be given one, please just let us know! Just remember that the Knights wouldn’t hand them out to anyone who’s known to be a Wraith or Wraith supporter for obvious reasons. Besides, those characters will be able to leave the castle anyways.
The vanishing cabinet in the Room of Requirement has been repaired. It transports to 12 Grimmauld Place, the Order of the Phoenix’s primary headquarters.
Hog’s Head Inn has been taken over by an Order of the Phoenix member. By going through the secret passageway in the Room of Requirement, students can make their way to Hog’s Head Inn and then Floo or apparate to where they need to go.
By going through the secret passageway by the Whomping Willow that leads to the Shrieking Shack, students can use the fireplace to Floo themselves to their desired location.
The Knights have informed many students of the various ways to leave the castle. Please note that this information is guarded by a Fidelius charm, so characters cannot reveal this secret to anyone else unless they are the Secret Keeper.
Notes from us:
With this event, the Revenant is officially OPEN for interactions! The timestamp is January 12th, 2027, and it will last until July 25th, 2020.
During this event, all characters will be present at Hogwarts. They will mostly be gathered by the Great Lake, where the memorial and briefing will be had. There is, however, opportunity for those present to slip out, under the guise of going to the bathroom or getting a bit of fresh air. What your character decides to do with this freedom, is up to you, but hopefully you’ll get some inspiration from what we’ve written down! If you’re not sure what role they would play in the actions organised by some of the allegiances, feel free to message us or the channels to plot it out!
Another thing to consider, is the fact that your adult, non-student characters, might be returning to the castle for the first time in years. How is it for them to return now that the castle is so very different? We’re not saying to get angsty, but…get angsty!
Feel free to message us if you want us to clear something up, if you want to discuss a certain plot or development, or if you have any questions
Friendly reminders:
Please be sure to mark the date, time, and setting in all of your starters and replies.
You’re more than welcome to do flashback interactions – just make sure you mark the date, time, and setting in your posts! Do not set any threads after the current timestamp though.
Please remember to tag all open starters with #rev starters. Please DO NOT tag closed starters with that tag because we don’t want to clog it. Since the tags tend to act up, we will also be linking any open starters we see in the discord and also reblogging them to our signal boost blog. Please feel free to just link your starter in the discord channel if you don’t want to wait around for us – we probably won’t catch it right away.
Please respond to two open starters for every starter you post. Because we’re just starting out, this rule doesn’t really apply yet because there aren’t any open starters at the moment, but please keep it in mind for later! You’re more than welcome to post private starters, but please make sure there are still open starters for everyone to respond to so no one feels left out.
Please make sure you’re following everyone on the blogroll and tracking all of our tracked tags. They can be found on the checklist on the main.
Everyone must like all the introductions that are posted, so you can bookmark them for later. It’s also a good way to break the ice in case you’re feeling a little shy about approaching someone for plots. You can find everyone’s introductions in the discord or on our signal boost blog.
Remember that it’s in the rules that you must reach out and plot with at least three people because we want to make sure that everyone is making an effort to plot with each other. We strongly encourage you to plot with everyone, especially people you aren’t familiar with or don’t usually plot with.
Ask memes can be reblogged at any time. If you reblog an ask meme, you should send out memes to everyone else who’s reblogged one in order to pay it forward. You can find the ask memes people have reblogged in the discord channel.
To all members of this household,
We hereby invite you to return to Hogwarts castle on January 12th, to remember Baudouin Polignac. Mr Polignac was a well-loved student at Hogwarts, who found his end at the hand of anonymous, rebellious brutes this winter break. We will take the evening to remember him and all other loyal citizens that have fallen during the war.
We will also take this opportunity to brief all attendees on the new Hogwarts curriculum. As this is crucial, we expect everyone to attend.
Failure to be present will be noted.
Until then,
Albert Runcorn,
Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
