Go in expecting a fun time at the movies & you won't be disappointed. . . This couldn't have been any better! Releasing a testosterone heavy action packed film on the birthday of two of India's most loved leaders is what makes this date very interesting. Gandhiji for sure must be twisting in his grave as 2nd Oct would be remembered for War Day after Bang Bang day. But take nothing away from the film. It's great fun & puts two of our biggest action stars against each other in a game of one up-manship. The action set pieces are glorious & Hrithik Roshan's swag alone is worth the price of the ticket. Tiger Shroff's rubberman flexibility is always fun to watch. Add to the mix Vaani Kapoor in a couple of scenes & all those locations in your bucket list and you are guaranteed 2.5 hours of fun. The biggest advantage of War is the Abbas Mustanesque approach to it where there is one twist after another that keeps you guessing. Too bad that the background score gets on your nerves. But that minor blemish aside, War is totally a fun watch. Go...binge & drool as two stars take on each other in the garb of desh bhakti. . . #war #yrf #yashrajfilms #mustwatch #reviewoftheweek #myview #bollywoodcinema (at Pune, Maharashtra) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3H4Ys6FtfL/?igshid=1047hk2d8ag66
A little funny, but mostly repetitive. Watch it for an incredible performance by Ayush-Man! . . Ayushmann Khurana has to be one of the most versatile actors in the scene today. His selection of roles are one thing, but the way he performs each of them is commendable. Give him any character, any role and he will ace it. And he proves that again with Dream Girl, a film that has 1 joke stretched too far. The film has some really funny dialogues and an ensemble cast of actors who seem to be having a ball. There is Vijay Raaz, Abhishek Banerjee, Annu Kapoor, Nidhi Bisht & Raj Bhansali all lusting for Ayushman's Pooja. Then there is Nushrat Bharucha playing his love interest and Manjot Singh playing his bestie. But make no mistake, this is an out and out Ayushmann film and he brings his versatility to the fore. This is a character that could have gone horribly wrong in the hands of a lesser actor, but not Ayushmann. The film does have some LOL moments but doesn't have enough gas to entertain you for about 2.5 hours. Nevertheless it is a one time watch strictly for Ayushmann's performance. Dark, Twisty and a Whole lot of Fun! . Great film makers do not make safe films. I have always believed in that! And director Prakash Kovelamudi debuts with a firecracker of a film. Something that we have come to associate with Sriram Raghavan, the baap of noir. Judgementall Hai Kya isn't an easy film to watch and it would surely leave audiences divided. You may love the film or hate it. There is no in-between. I loved it for its twisted dark humour and it's thrill quotient. Kangana Ranaut plays herself for most parts. (Pun Intended). She plays by far the craziest character seen on screen. Rajkummar Rao matches her scene for scene as a guy with a dodgy character. Together they are thunder personified. But a great film is made as much of supporting characters as it is of the leads. So Satish Kaushik as a snack loving inspector, Amyra Dastur & Amrita Puri as Rajkummar's partners and Hussain Dalal as Kangana's partner are all amazing as fuck. They deliver and how. The background music by Daneil George is haunting and apt. The twists and turns in the film are worth your money totally. Do not miss this at any cost. . . #judgementallhaikya #reviewoftheweek #myview #movieoftheweek #thriller #noir (at Pune, Maharashtra) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0dCQq3F4ss/?igshid=fa7lhrupv59v
A happy film that deserves a watch for it's novelty & craziness! . Everytime a rom-com is up for release, we think the genre is done to death and what new would this film offer? But director @upendrasidhaye an award winning writer debuts with a film that is refreshingly different. It's a simple story but has a distinctive freshness to it that leaves you with a smile as you exit the cinema. @ameyzone is in top form & plays Nachiket with heartfelt sincerity and amazing restraint. You feel for him as he is one of us. The best thing about Girlfriend is it's slice of life approach. @saietamhankar is such a brilliant casting choice. She has transformed herself in the last couple of years and seems to be ageing backwards. She injects Alisha with the right amount of mystery and cuteness. @rasika123s as Nachya's office buddy is a hoot. @isha_keskar as Nachya's bestie's wife adds just the right shade of grey to her role. Nachya's buddies @suyogsrg & @udaynene are his voice of reason & are really nice as the supportive best friends. Sagar Deshmukh plays Nachya's boss with the required sarcasm & toughness. Yatin Karyekar & Kavita Lad are the kind of parents you wish for. @pratyanchanarale plays Baby with amazing fun! The music by Jasraj Joshi, Hrishikesh Datar & Saurabh Bhalerao is intensely soulful & funky. This is the kind of film you would want to watch to uplift your mood on a gloomy day. And for non-Maharastrian audiences, the film has english subtitles. So you must watch this film. It's a sure shot stress buster! @upendrasidhaye Take a bow! This is the film you have been waiting for! DO NOT MISS IT! . . Anubhav Sinha is a maverick. After making films like Dus, Cash, Ra.One & Tum Bin-2, Sinha it seems discovered his mojo with Mulk. And he doesn't restrict his renaissance to one film. He goes even better with Article 15. This isn't based on newspaper headlines masquerading as a real film. It tells you things that maybe you are unaware of...or even if you are aware, you tend to brush it off. It shows us how caste politics are never about the caste. But what I loved about the film is its dark humour. Every character adds value to the film. And Sinha's dialogues are surreal. They are so impactful. Hands down, this has to be the best written film of the year. Where do I start about Ayushmann? The man it seems can do no wrong. His lineup of films are already full of classics and he adds another to the list. His was a tricky role and he puts in a pitch perfect performance. Manoj Pahwa & Kumud Mishra are the pillars of the film. And Sayani Gupta as Gaura, the dalit girl is sensational in a role that demanded an assured performance. Ronjini Chokroborty and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub shine in special appearances. I wouldn't say anymore. Missing this film is the worst thing you will be doing this weekend/week. So go ahead and take a trip of the heartlands. . . #reviewoftheweek #myview #article15 #constitution #mustwatch #caste #realfilm #zeestudios (at Pune, Maharashtra) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzTNU-plihF/?igshid=10ftznhnrgkqx
The most misogynistic film of our times...BUT it packs a punch! . . 6 years back on the exact same date released Raanjhanaa, one of my favourite films of this decade. And Kabir Singh is now being talked about in the same breadth which doesn't make sense at all. That is because Kundan had his reasons for doing what he did. It was one sided love but it wasn't about owning the love of your life. With Kabir, there is no such thing. He has everything one would need in life and STILL he is what he is. He is a rebel without a cause. Also the way he treats women is horrific to say the least. Women, stay away. This might leave you disgusted at the end of it all. But that's a problem with the character. As a film, Kabir Singh shall remain one of Shahid's landmark films. I haven't watched Arjun Reddy so no comparisons there, but this is one of Shahid's finest performances. He completely owns the man-child part and is terrific as the angst ridden lover. Kiara Advani has not much to do and breezes through. Arjan Bajwa is good in a supporting role and so is Nikita Dutta. But this is Shahid Kapoor's film. While Haider and Kaminey took him to the classes, this one aims at the masses. I would recommend watching Kabir Singh once as you must know what normalising misogyny feels like. It also has a protagonist who is difficult to like, but you are still curious about what's next. Yes, it's that kind of a film.
