Nato + Brandon’s characters analyzed by me :)

In Rather Be the whole band is separated but shares the same feeling: wanting to be at rehearsal, all together, just playing music because that’s what they like and enjoy. I think there’s a particular lyric in that song that represents exactly Nato and Brandon’s personality and problems and dynamic with the rest of the band so,,, let’s take a look at it:

From my point of view, understanding these lines is key to connect with these characters. Brandon here is excited to talk about Led Zeppelin, as his most characteristic trait is wanting to show or impress his friends with his music knowledge. He wants people to realize how smart he is and make him feel reassured in his passion (relatable™). He takes every opportunity he sees to spread random music facts, which his friends don’t really get and mostly just find annoying. This is what finally leads him to leave the band and play with McFly, a more “serious” group (spoiler: it’s a bad decision).

And what about Nato? He seems specifically excited to spend time with Brandon and his others friends. Throughout the story he’s used as comic relief, but he is also the main force keeping all the band together. We can say he’s a very empathetic person - when his friends are arguing he seems distressed and his first reaction is to act as an intermediary and stop the fight. When they all make up by the end of Act II, it’s thanks to Nato. And still, he seems to be the most underappreciated in the band by the rest of the members, considered just The Funny One and with little musical talent (which is not true because,,, Amphibian exists).

In conclusion, the lyrics represent the things this characters value and care about the most:

Nato → friendship / being part of a group

Brandon → musical knowledge / being noticed

Still, the lyrics also help prove as to why they have a great chemistry and a shipeable dynamic. While Brandon hopelessly searches for somebody to hear him, Nato is the one who is willing to do that for him. They have a very close relationship, as revealed by some other parts of the script:

Here Brandon is self conscious about his rapping skills but Nato has already heard the song, so we can assume Nato has a special place in Brandon’s life different from Chris or John. In my opinion, it’s because in conclusion:

Brandon → wants to be heard

Nato → actually listens to Brandon

So yeah, great pair, Nandon 2020 rights babey.

fun fact: john’s surname actually has a cute (romantic even?) meaning in spanish

amoroso [a.moˈɾo.so], or amorosa in feminine, (or amorose in gender neutral but that’s not officially accepted yet), is an adjective that comes from the word “amor” (love) and means “somebody who feels or expresses love / care”. the best translation would be affectionate or loving, i think?

the Care Bears are called los Osos Amorosos in spain, for example. in latam they’re called Ositos Cariñositos, which is just another synonym (“-itos” is a diminutive)

Today I came up with an idea for a (long-ish) Nandon fanfiction.

I’m not posting this because I already wrote a fair bit and it’ll be posted soon (I just wrote two sentences, a dialog and a bunch of headcanons) but because I most likely won’t post it and it’ll be a WIP forever so you know it and we can all be disappointed in me together :) /hj/lh

That being said... If anyone has any ideas for some name I could use for Nato and Brandon’s parents it would be great (also title ideas I’m bad at that!!!)
