All of our recent additions of sustainable Christmas accessories, gifts and accessories for the home have been made in partnership with social enterprise, Varnam Craft collective in India. What truly inspired us to work Varnam, is not just the beauty, the functionality or the sheer simplicity of the products but the story behind them. Since 2012, Varnam has been working with Channapatna artisans to revive the 200-year-old lac turnery craft form, that saw a steady decline over the years ~ owing to it’s limited production to just toys, the absence of support for the artisans and their work, innovation in terms of design, and the availability of cheap, mass-produced imitation products in the market. What’s admirable about Varnam’s story and it’s journey and success, are founder Karthik’s passion for the craft, respect for the artisans and the efforts taken to reorient the craft form. Varnam’s strength lies in it’s innovative design and how it’s managed to adapt a toy- making tradition to now create functional products with a modern aesthetic. Through the joint efforts of the Varnam Craft Collective and participating craftspeople, lac turnery products have now expanded to include home and lifestyle items. ...... #revivingcraft #revivingart #revivingcrafts #inspiringstories #artisanempowerment #socialenterprisesupport #centuriesold #artistsoninstagram #craftersofinstagram #creativity #handmadecrafts #craftstory #makersgonnamake #handmadegifts #christmasgiftsideas #christmasgifts #supportsmallbusiness #create #cute #wood #woodworking #kids #lacwaredecor #madewithlove #homedecorproducts (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CH0HC73Jqbp/?igshid=7rp5uq44f5ua
