I met him once back in the 1980s at a youth retreat my church put on in upstate New York. A humble respectful man. A man of few words but with an impactful presence. There were other Civil Rights Leaders present. At the time I was a child, and though I of course knew who they were, I did not realize the moment of being surrounded by historical legends. No airs, no pomp, no arrogance, just leaders there for the youth encouraging and supporting us. Thank you.
