Pacific Rim: The Jaeger Awakens Part 3
Rey wiped her tears as two soldiers barged in.
“We’re being attacked.”
“By who?”
“...the First Order.” Poe and Rose looked at each other and started to head out.
“Wait!” Rey shouted. “...can you not tell anyone about this? You know, so I don’t seem weak?” They nodded and left the room.
“Rey-“ She went to follow them. They ran outside to find Jaegers attacking the field.
“What do we do?” Finn asked, Rey behind him.
“I’ll call you when I need you, for now, I need you both to get back to the others.” Poe commanded. A rocket flew right where the were causing them to go flying.
“GET INSIDE NOW!” Poe yelled as they struggled to get up. Rey put Finn’s arm around her shoulder and they quickly hobbled inside.
“What’s going on?” One of the cadets asked.
“We’re being invaded.”
“What?” Everyone began to worry.
“We have to do something.” One of them said.
“Yeah, we have to fight!”
“No. The best option for us, is to stay here. Where it’s safe.” Rey claimed.
“But, we could help! We could win this.”
“We’re not ready.” She argued as she tightly wrapped Finns ankle. He grunted in pain.
“Well sure we are! You guys were the only ones that failed the test. We’re all compatible.”
“Listen to me.” Rey let go of Finns foot. “We already have a small army of troops. If we go out there, if we die. We’ll lose, it’ll be over...then what are we gonna do.” She finished up wrapping Finns foot. The room was quiet, she was right, no one could argue with that. Everyone began to chatter as the ground shook.
“Listen Rey, I’m sorry I blacked out on you..”
“Don’t. I get it, I saw your memories too. I felt it.” Finn looked down. “I saw what happened, how you got like this.” Finn pulled his knees to his chest.
“I don’t wanna talk about it.” He said. Rey placed her hand on his knee.
“This pain, your feeling, it won’t last long...it can’t.” Finn gazed at nothing. Rey got up and went out to talk to Rose. Leaving Finn alone. A tear ran down his face as he gulped. Soon he was weeping at the thought of reliving this memory from the horrible past. He was six years old. Watching tv with his mother as she smoked a cigarette. He wasn’t close with his parents, he was just..there. The phone rang.
“Finn go answer the phone.” She said to him. He ran and picked up the house phone.
“Hello...hi daddy! Are you coming? Yay!” He ran to the door waiting for someone who wanted nothing to do with him. He opened the door. Finn lifted his arms waiting to be carried into a warm embrace, like the families on tv.
“Hey, where’s that piggy bank of yours?” His father asked.
“Under my bed.”
“Good.” He patted him on the head and headed towards Finns bedroom. Finn waited in the hallway. Curious, as to what his father is doing. The sound of his piggy bank shattering caused him to run in the room. He cried, as his father shoved the money in his pockets and ran out the door. He never saw his father after that. Until one day his mother took him to a casino to gamble for her. He saw his father there, his father tricked him into getting all his money and left Finn with not a single penny. While he chased him outside by the pier a kaiju came out of the ocean and that was the last time he’d ever see his father alive. His mother had abandoned him after that, he felt useless. His whole life he was used and broken. No ones ever shown him love or affection. He didn’t know any different, as he got older he learned that he only mattered when someone needed something, otherwise he didn’t exist. That was his reason. The ground shook once more, serious this time. Poe ran in. Finn quickly wiped his face with his sleeve.
“It’s over. They’re gone.” Leia walked up behind him.
“No it’s not. It was a diversion..they opened the breech.”
“How do you know for sure?” Finn asked. Leia turned the on the tv where the news was showing the kaiju rising out of the ocean.
“That’s how.”
“What’dya say Finn. Wanna go for a ride?” Poe smirked.
“I can’t.” He paused.
“What, why?”
“I won’t be able to control myself...I’ll just get us killed.” Poe looked at Leia, who shrugged her shoulders.
“No.” Rey pushed herself through the door way. “Finn, don’t let that bring you down.” She sat down next to him. “Your strong and fearless, but you let the past haunt you at night. The problem isn’t controlling your emotions, Finn. It’s leaving your troubles behind and focusing on what’s right in the moment.” She reaches her hand out to him. He looked at it, then there eyes met. “We need you Finn.” Rey said. No ones ever needed him. They’ve only wanted something from him. He was never needed, especially for something right.
“What about my foot?”
“You wanna sit here and complain about it, or go out there and save the world?” Leia complained. Finn grabbed her hand, sending electricity through both of there bodies and they went out.
“Phoenix!” Finn yelled in excitement.
“Surprise.” Poe smiled. “We thought you might want to use her.”
“But she doesn’t work. I tried.”
“She works. We just had to shut it down at the shack, because you weren’t liscensed to acsess one.”
They suited up and strapped themselves to the Jaeger.
“Let’s kill every last one of them.” Rey said.
They arrived at the pacific.
“Now all you need to do is close the breech, you do that by planting the bombs inside the portal.” Leia anounced through the earpiece.
“Phoenix isn’t stocked with bombs.”
“We made a few adjustments.”
A kaiju charged at them.
“Don’t worry about that. Get to the breech!” They shoved it out of the way.
“Where’s the breech?” Rey asked.
“I don’t know.”
“Finn, we installed an underwater feature so that you can access the breech.” Finn searched through the hologramic buttons until he found the feature. They were now swimming through the Pacific Ocean searching for the breech along with other Jaeger troops. It was far down. Out of nowhere a kaiju swung trying to take a bite out of the metal.
“Give it your all Rey!” Finn yelled to her, and their compatibility got stronger. They raised their arms over their heads, and slammed it into the kaiju. Punching and kicking it.
“Activate blade rocket!” He hollered. One of the jaegers hands morphed into the shape of a rocket and shot out blades right into the kaijus eyes, killing it.
“We did it!” Rey cheered. They high fived themselves in celebration.
“We’re still not done.”Leia stated. “The breech is still open. Get there, before anymore kaiju come through.” They looked at each other and nodded. After a few steps they stopped.
“The breech was already closed.”
“General, the breech isn’t open.”
“What?”
“The breech..it’s closed. There’s no sign of it being opened.” Leia rubbed her chin, then her eyes widened she quickly went back to the microphone.
“GET OUT OF THERE, IT’S A TRAP.” Finn and Rey looked at each other and began to swim to the top using the jaegers feet rockets. But they ran out of fuel and soon they were sinking back down.
“We’re put of fuel!” Rey announced.
“Don’t worry I’m-” They lost connection. Water began pouring through a whole where the kaiju bit.
“Come on, we gotta get outta here.” Finn demanded, as he began to take off his helmet. Rey stood there motionless, her eyes teary.
“I can’t swim..” she nodded.
“Don’t worry, I got you.” He took her helmet off.
“Finn? Finn!” Poe’s voice came from the earpiece. He rushed to it.
“Poe?”
“Your alive! Okay stay where you are, I’m coming to get you.”
“What about the others?” Rey asked.
“They’re..gone.” The jaeger shook. “Don’t worry, it’s just me.” He was in a jaeger much bigger than Phoenix. It was orange and white.
“Come on, quick!” he shouted. Once they got in, Finn’s jaeger exploded. “Phoenix!” Finn screamed as they flew out.
“How’d she blow up?”
“Those kaiju, aren’t kaiju.”
“What?”
“It’s some kind of brainwashed jaeger they’ve molded into one.”
“How?”
“Using the blood that researches used to study them. Leia said we need to-” A rocket shot right into them causing the jaeger to hit the ground. Rey woke up to a blurry sight, an open cut on her head. Squinting her eyes to see clearer, she noticed through the debris Finn being dragged away by a man wearing all black.
“Finn..Finn!” she got up and struggled to run towards him. The world grew dizzy, she could barely keep her balance.
“Finn.” her breath heavy, she fell to the ground. Putting her hand on her head she noticed blood dripping from her fingers. She didn’t care, she got back up and ran. Rey opened her eye’s, she was back at the Resistance base.
“Where’s Finn?” she asked, as Poe addressed her wound.
“I don’t know. I woke up and you two were gone. When I found you I brought you here.”
“Someone..someone took him. I saw it.”
“Who?” Leia asked.
“A man, wearing all black. He had long hair.” Poe and Leia looked at one another.
“We know where he is. Poe get ready. We’re gonna end this once and for all.”
“Where is he?”
“Ben has him.”
“Whose..Ben?”
“The leader of the First Order.” Rey’s heart began to pound.
“Why..would they take him?”
“He used to be one of them.” Poe said as he armed himself.
“Wait..what-?”
“We gotta get him back before it’s too late.”
“Let me come with you.”
“Rey, your hurt-”
“Please, I can help.”
“Ok..but your gonna need to suit up.”
Finn woke up strapped to a chair, face to face with Benjamin Solo.
“Good morning.” He said to him. “Or should I say afternoon.”
“What do you want from me?”
“I want you, to come back. We could use your building skills.”
“For what? Building jaegers so you could ruin peoples lives. I’m not you’re puppet Ben.”
“Of course your not, and I don’t want you to feel that way...I know how hard thing’s have been for you. It hasn’t been easy, I just want you to know I’m here for you. Whatever you need, I’ll be here.” A tall woman walked in, in full armor.
“Sir, they’re ready.” Ben nodded and walked out. “Finn, good to see you again.” she smiled, Finn rolled his eyes at her. After she left he heard a hissing sound coming from behind him.
“Psst.” It was Poe.
“Poe?”
“I’m gonna get you outta here.” He said, as he began to unbuckle his hands.
“How’d you get in?”
“Their security isn’t..very professional.” He chuckled. “There’s been a change of plans. We figured out where the kaijus came from.”
“Where?” Finn asked.
“Here.” Finn was puzzled.
“I’ll explain later.” Poe opened the door revealing Rey.
“Finn!” She threw herself at him into a warm embrace. That same warm embrace is what he’s been waiting for, forever.
“What’re you doing here?” he asked.
“I wanted to see you.” She answered, still in the embrace. He didn’t want to let go. Rey did care about him, and he was pushing her away. All because he didn’t want to get hurt.
“Alright, no time for hugging.” Poe said splitting them apart.
“So, what do we do?”
“We blow it up, all of it.”
