My honest opinion/review on “The Rise of Skywalker”
I have finally collected my feelings and thoughts and this is what I have to say.=)
I’m gonna start by describing each character’s journey.
Leia: Since Carrie died before making this movie it’s understanable that they had to work with what they had left of her (old and unseen footage). I think they did a decent job with that and obviously I wished Carrie was still alive and could’ve played the bigger role/part of this movie like she was supposed to from the beginning. Aside from this, I love the fact that Leia did some Jedi training with Luke when they were young. It really warmed my heart actually for some reason.
Poe: I wish they didn’t introduce a former flame of Poe into his story arc to make him more interesting. I wanted to know more about his past (aside from being a spice smuggler) and for him to have some more character development (or did he have it in the movie? I must’ve missed that part).
Finn: Why did they have make Finn pine for Rey? And heavily hint that he loves her romantically? Why can’t a woman and a man be just friends? I wish Finn did some digging on his past instead - only to discover that he already has a family and is the son of someone very important that was kidnapped as a baby by the First Order a long time ago...
Rose: You can tell JJ Abrams doesn’t like this character that Rian Johnson invented, I almost didn’t see her in this movie. And she only received a pat on the shoulder by Finn, who she loves (and who I thought loved her too in TLJ).
Hux: Are you kidding me? A spy? He strongly wanted power in TFA and only to destroy everything to destroy Kylo Ren? I don’t buy that, I wanted to see him attempt to kill Kylo instead... And his death? I wanted it to be more significant than what it was...sigh.
Palpatine: This is why you have to write the whole plot for 3 movies beforehand. And not split it in 3 and pass it on by different writers/directors. It felt rushed having him in this movie. And also - I wanted his appearance to be surprise - not for it to be read on the screen in the beginning.
Rey: I blame JJ for destroying this character. Her killing Kylo and then healing him....then her surrending to Palpatine like a weak person...her not caring enough after Kylo died... Her being able to do all sorts of things that, while it took years for Kylo to master it all.
Kylo: He deserved so much more. He deserved a second chance and to live with his one true love like Anakin couldn’t with Padme. He was supposed to live!!!! AARRGGHH!!!!!!!! Not die for a Palpatine - who got the last laugh now.... I feel like they didn’t want more Skywalker kids so they had to kill him off, sigh. On the other hand - it was in character for Kylo to sacrifice himself for Rey. And I’m happy that he at least got a Bendemption and a kiss from Rey.
Things I wish they showed us more of:
I wanted Rey to be a nobody or a Kenobi and also more bonding scenes between Reylo - and not for them to only talk about the Force and their pasts. Also - I wanted more kissing scenes.
Anyways, I’m not gonna let this ruin my childhood or love for Star Wars. I'm gonna ignore the bad parts of this movie and live for the good ones. <33
