it’s so frustrating to me when people are like “jj/pablo/daisy debunked [insert rey parentage theory here]!!” because like...
ndas are a very real thing that exist - do you really think lucasfilm/disney would allow daisy or jj to give away rey’s parentage in a press interview, or pablo to give it away over twitter for crying out loud? or literally anything over social media, such as instagram comments etc?
rey’s parentage is one of the biggest theories and secrets in the star wars universe right now. it literally cannot be debunked or disproven or anything of the sort because it would ruin the surprise and spoil everything.
in regards to that comment, jj has explicitly stated that “what i meant was that she doesn’t discover them in episode vii. not that they may not already be in her world.” this leaves han, leia, and luke as potential candidates, or even poe dameron and lor san tekka, at the behest of some people’s theories.
(please imagine poe trying to raise a child at the ripe age of fifteen.)
until somebody comes out and explicitly says “rey is the child of han and leia!” or “rey is luke’s daughter!” or “rey is obi-wan kenobi’s descendant!” or even “rey is hatched from a force egg and unrelated to anyone in the galaxy!” --
treat everything as being up for canon.
i understand that episode viii isn’t going to be here until 2017 and the wait for it is agonizing but please do not try and shit on anybody’s thoughts just because of a few things people have said off-the-cuff in press interviews or tweets or instagram posts. it is the cast and crew’s job to keep us entertained and guessing, and i’m sure they hate not being able to tell us as well - imagine being daisy and being unable to correct somebody’s totally incorrect theory for three years! just wait it out, keep posting your meta and theories, and see what happens.
sidenote: this also applies to theories such as prince!finn, finn skywalker, double agent/force-sensitive hux, snoke is plagueis etc, not just to rey’s parentage.
