pt. 1
TASK #5: home
Reza's home in Sune's Harbour had been a work in progress for the past five years and had finally finished beginning of this year. He was able to buy a loft apartment for cheap from one of his old 'friends' and had been doing renovation all on his own. Other than his mattress, all of his furniture had been bought second hand or collected from Miguel's house at Fork's Road.
There was a small secret space that he created during the renovation behind a false wall of his bedroom where he kept all the grimoires and tomes that Miguel had collected in the past. It was also a place where he created a makeshift shrine to place the offerings for the spirits.
TASK #3: family
FATHER Harris Ottoman FC Faisal Hussein AGE 33 STATUS presumed dead
His marriage with Jasmin was an arranged but happy one. it was safe to say that he fell in love with her the moment he laid his eyes on her and was determined to win her heart despite their pre-destined marriage on the horizon. Harris’ speciality, as it was in his family, was healing magic, which complemented his personality rather well.
Harris was rather laid back and often goofed around whenever he was able to, to which he believed was the reason Jasmin was attracted to him in the first place. he was also a very caring person, always trying to help others whenever he could. it was because of this that he had helped Miguel with his situation, supporting the man as much as he could despite the warnings that he received from his other friends. he often spent his free time learning something new, fixing things around the house and Miguel’s old Westfalia.
MOTHER Jasmin Danielle FC Nasha Aziz AGE 33 STATUS presumed dead
Jasmin had always dreamt of a fairy-tale-like love story, so when she learnt that she was to be in an arranged marriage, admittedly she didn’t take it well. however, she came around when she got to know Harris intimately, slowly falling in love with him. like so many others in their community, she had reservations when she came to know Miguel, but she tried to understand him as best as she could and eventually considered Miguel to be a good friend outside of her coven.
Jasmin was a quiet person in general, but was very easy to laugh at jokes, no matter how mundane it was. she shared the same compassion as her husband and had a helping hand to help miguel stood on his feet. in her spare time, Jasmin would be seen reading books regardless of its genre. it was evident by the many collections that she had throughout their house.
GUARDIAN Miguel Javiera Nicolás Cordero FC Pedro Pascal AGE 55 STATUS unknown (missing)
( tw: sex worker mention)
to say that Miguel had an interesting childhood was an understatement. he grew up not knowing his father and was raised by a mother who worked as a prostitute to get by. they lived in a small one-bedroom apartment, and whenever his mother had to bring home a stranger, he was looked after by their neighbour who practised witchcraft, which sparked Miguel’s initial interest in the supernatural and occults.
he met both Harris and Jasmin for the first time when he moved in next to their home in his fervent search of the possibility of he himself being able to wield magic like the witches did. despite their reservation, Harris and Jasmin still accepted him and his antics, thus Miguel came to consider them as family, as much as family meant to him that is.
Miguel was keen on learning everything there was to know, dipping his fingers into as many pies as possible. this habit was passed down to Reza, who didn’t need much push to learn everything on his own. he was also very charming, and was able to wiggle his way out of any sticky situation that he put himself in, and if he couldn’t, he always knew that he could count on Reza to help him.
TASK #2: dreams for the future
When asked about what he dreams for the future, Reza tells people that he doesn’t dream. Except for the bloody nightmares that’s been going on for however long now. He doesn’t dream about the past nor of the future, saying that he only lives for the moment, as he has been living all his life, and isn’t about to change anytime soon. He prepares for the future, sure, but he doesn’t dream about it. Why dream of the uncertainty when he has shit tonne to do right now, or so he says. So he will strap on his boots and go about his day to day.
But he knows this is not true. He wants to deny that he dreams of the future too. Because of course he does, he’s just like everyone else despite his pessimistic view of the world. Secretly, deep down in his heart, he dreams of acceptance. He dreams of being embraced by Miguel when he returns (if he returns), telling how sorry he was for leaving and for tio to forgive him and letting him be his family again. Because no matter their past, they only have each other. Reza knows this, because he’s tried to find his parents and Miguel’s other family, back in the States, but was to no avail.
He dreams of acceptance from the coven, proven that he is loved despite the erratic of his magic and his inability to hear the spirits, and not just pretty white lies told by those who look at him with pitiful eyes and even sorrowful smile. He dreams of accepting those white lies as truths without thinking twice, because he is so tired of living simply because he has not found a way of not living without hurting himself or others around him.
Finally, he dreams of accepting himself. Embracing himself fully and wholly, because he has never felt like he is himself in his own skin for a very long time that he has forgotten how that actually feels. No matter how cocky he always acts he often feels that his skin on his body is wrong somehow, so he often dreams that he will wake up one morning and feels, for once, that his skin fits him like a glove.
So, Reza may tell anyone who is willing to listen that he doesn’t dream of the future, but deep down he knows that is a lie. Because he dreams of the future, acceptance, and a kinder future for himself.
