Stevens Streaks to #1 (#OTD - 1974) May 18, 2016 (O&F) – Capitalizing of the offbeat fade that gained prominence in the early 1970s, Ray Stevens hit #1 with the single “The Streak” on this date (#OTD) in 1974. The song celebrated those who called attention to themselves by disrobing and running naked in public. The hit was one of several comical songs Stevens wrote and recorded and helped earned him a reputation as the creator of novelty songs. However, Stevens had studied music theory and composition at Georgia State University and worked behind the scenes as a music producer and session musician for a number of years. He had one other #1 hit, 1970’s inspirational “Everything is Beautiful,” a song with a gospel feel that stood in stark contrast to his novelty hits. Currently, Stevens is the host of a weekly, 30-minute TV show entitled Ray Stevens’ Nashville, a show broadcast on RFD-TV that originates from the country music capital. The show is scheduled to run through October 2017. Meanwhile, Stevens is also scheduled to play the following concert dates this year: - FRI 20 MAY Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center The Villages, FL SAT 21 MAY The Blue Gate Theater Shipshewana, IN SAT 15 OCTOBER Alabama Theatre North Myrtle Beach, SC More news, interviews, album reviews and original radio features that document music from the 70s and 80s at www.OandFStudios.com #raystevens #70smusic #popmusic #countrymusic #comedy #rfdtv #nashville #georgiastateuniversity #top40 #2016concerts #oandfstudios @oandfstudios
