We are in love with Linda She’s a pro-wrestler from Nagano, Japan. She also has a radio show at FM Matumoto. She first caught our attention when we saw her wearing the black outfit we’ve reposted from her Instagram page. Melissa Manchester Releases Two Albums Today Sept. 8, 2017 (O&F) – More than 40 years after debuting on the pop chart with her first hit single, “Midnight Blue,” Melissa Manchester is currently having one of the busiest years of her career. Not only is she releasing a new studio album today, a second album featuring the complete collection of her singles from the 1970s and 1980s is also being released today. The new album is ‘The Fellas,’ which has Manchester paying tribute to male singers from the past with new recordings of classic songs made famous by crooners such as Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett and Dean Martin. Manchester says the album is the long overdue follow up to her 1989 album ‘Tribute,’ in which she paid omega to female singers that influenced her. ‘The Fellas’ features a duet on the song “For Me and My Gal” with long-time friend Barry Manilow, who went through the studio musician days with Manchester in the early parts of their respective careers. Meanwhile, the singles collection, ‘Through the Eyes of Love: The Complete Arista 7″ Singles,’ features 43 tracks on two CDs that make up all of Manchester’s songs released on Arista Records during her time at the label. The Jacksons, Oleta Adams, Jody Watley and others to be Celebrated at ‘Black Music Honors' - Aug. 3, 2017 -- Central City Productions will pay tribute to The Jacksons, Donnie McClurkin, Slick Rick, Guy, Oleta Adams and Jody Watley, at Black Music Honors. The live television special taping will take place on Friday, August 18, 2017 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. The Jacksons are set to receive the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award, Grammy Award-winner Donnie McClurkin will receive the Gospel Music Icon Award; the R&B group Guy, creators of the New Jack Swing sound, will be given the R&B Soul Music Icon Award; Grammy nominated-singer Oleta Adams is receiving the Legends Award, Grammy Award-winner Jody Watley will be recognized with the Crossover Music Icon Award and Grammy nominated rapper Slick Rick will be presented with the Hip Hop/Rap Music Icon Award. The Black Music Honors will include a special performance by The Jacksons. SWV, Karen Clark Sheard, Avery Sunshine, Dave Hollister, Jonathan Butler, Kid 'N Play, Latrice Crawford, Leela James, Marvin Winans, Da Brat, and Sevyn Streeter are also slated to perform. Quincy Jones Wins Lawsuit against the Michael Jackson Estate July 27, 2017 -- In a breach of contract and royalty dispute, legendary music producer Quincy Jones has secured a $9.4 million jury verdict against MJJ Productions, the production company of the late music icon Michael Jackson. The lawsuit, litigated by Jones’ legal representatives, led by attorney McKool Smith, centered on allegations that MJJ Productions, which is controlled by Michael Jackson's estate, failed to pay Jones royalties for the soundtrack to "This Is It" – a documentary that was released just months after Jackson's death – and Jackson's Cirque du Soleil productions, which both feature several musical hits produced by Jones. The verdict follows a two-week jury trial before Judge Michael L. Stern in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles. After deliberating for more than two days, the jury returned a verdict in favor of Jones. - "The jury worked tirelessly to listen to all of the evidence and weigh the facts of the case," said McKool. "As we have maintained throughout trial, based on contractual obligations and a long standing agreement with Mr. Jackson himself, Quincy Jones is clearly entitled to his fair share of royalties based on his significant contributions to many of Michael Jackson's most iconic pieces of work. Heart Sits Alone at #1 (#OTD1987) - July 11, 2017 (O&F) – More than a decade after establishing its rightful place in the 1970s’ male-dominated rock scene, the group Heart was in the middle of a comeback. Led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, the group was riding high with its album ‘Bad Animals’ and the lead single “Alone,” which hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart on this date (#OTD) in 1987. The song’s journey to the top of the chart was as meandering as the group’s. The tune had been written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly for their 1983 album ‘Taking a Cold Look,” released under the group name I-Ten, a short-lived venture that didn’t receive much national attention. In 1984, “Alone” was covered by John Stamos and Valerie Stevenson for their short-lived TV show ‘Dreams,’ and its accompanying soundtrack album. Finally, in 1987, Heart got ahold of the song and turned it into the biggest hit of the group’s career. It stayed at #1 for three weeks. The album ‘Bad Animals’ produced two more hits, “Who Will You Run To” and “There’s the Girl,” which added to Heart’s career total of 13 Top 20 hits. Diamond’s ‘Blue’ Song Hits #1 (#OTD1972) - July 1, 2017 (O&F) – The popularity of the singer/songwriter was in full vogue in the early 1970s, and on the pop charts no one was more successful in the genre than Neil Diamond. The Brooklyn native was the premier example of a writer who had successful transitioned from song scribe to top selling artist, and on this date (#OTD) in 1972, he hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with the single “Song Sung Blue.” - The song, the lead single from the critically acclaimed ‘Moods” album, was Diamond’s second #1 hit as a singer and his third #1 as a writer. In 1970, Diamond’s “Cracklin’ Rosie” had hit #1, and in 1966 the Monkees had taken his song “I’m a Believer” to #1. - Diamond would have another #1 written-and-performed song in the 1970s when “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” a duet with Barbra Streisand, hit the top of the chart in 1978, and in 1988 the group UB40 took a cover of Diamond’s “Red Red Wine” to #1. Steve Miller Opens the Vaults to His Music June 28, 2017 -- Steve Miller, one of the world's most commercially successful and acclaimed artist/bands in the history of popular music, recently opened his entire vault/warehouse to Capitol/Ume. The record label now has access to the legendary guitarist’s music, footage, photos, memorabilia, artwork, handwritten notes, journals and more to include in upcoming releases. Miller’s hits include “The Joker, ”Fly Like an Eagle,” "Take The Money and Run," "Rock'n Me," "Jet Airliner” and "Jungle Love." He now brings his entire catalogue of recorded music to the label where he originally began his recording career in 1967 including his 18 studio albums, boxed sets, live recordings and numerous compilation albums including the mega-selling 17x platinum Steve Miller Greatest Hits, unreleased recordings and long-form audiovisual projects. UMe will release his catalog projects, while new material will be released through Capitol Records. Miller is in the process of directing the concept and curation for his Steve Miller Band catalog releases. The first Steve Miller project will be announced soon. Running through Miller's distinctive catalog is a combination of virtuosity and song craft.
