I was wanting the fucked up Kryptis skyscale skin for Efalynn, but I've been really enjoying the Branded skin and think it fits better for her.
But I don't have a skyscale for Rhiannwen yet! And that got me thinking.
What if normal skyscales are put off by Rhiannwen's residual Zhaitan vibes, so she was never able to befriend one? And after she meets Efalynn again, Rhi has to begrudgingly admit this because she's not able to go on the flight around Janthir that Efy was suggesting.
So Efalynn, one of the best necromancers in the world at this point, works for days, wearing herself out and falling asleep on the sofa in the homestead cave, to craft a skyscale with far too many eyes and shifting skin and exposed bone.
She hands off the magical tethers to Rhiannwen, and her uncanny, silent sister starts cooing over this thing like a baby
for the friend OC ask game: who would get along best with Ari? :D to provide some facts: 1. she was legionnaire for her warband before a series of events split them up, and she still feels responsible for them, 2. she can and does drink milk and eat cookies but doesn't tell most people that, 3. she learns to be a pilot once the Pact forms and really loves the feeling of flying, 4. she puts up walls against both other people and her own feelings--she loves fiercely but is excellent at denial, since she's had so much practice with it, and 5. she never takes insults lying down. she had enough of that as a cub, so she won't take it now. @kerra-and-company
thanks for the ask! :)
hmm, I think Ari might get on pretty well with Rhiannwen. they both have walls up about their feelings (in Rhi's case its that she. has feelings at all), they both Can't Let People Know We Enjoy Things, and both won't stand for being insulted. although that might end up with a case of spidermanpointing.jpg instead of friendship. but also I think if the two of them met, and if Ari would be willing to teach her, Rhiannwen would enjoy learning to fly too, and that could be something they would bond over
🤢 + Rhiannwen! (from @synchrosgw2)
oh my god please just talk to your sister. you don't actually need to do the whole edgy loner thing anymore. I'm sure it sucks ass being undead but you're related to one of the biggest nerds in tyria with contacts all over the place. she's trying to help!
from the alphabetical asks, A5, B2, C2, and D3 for a character of your choice! :D @kerra-and-company
thanks for the ask! :) random number selector (aka my friends) picked Rhiannwen for this one
A
what is their most impressive talent?
Rhiannwen has fantastic aim and coordination. she's a sniper, so it comes with the job, but in my vague post-canon future she loves showing off her skills with knife throwing, juggling, darts, that kind of thing. oh my god Rhi is a jock lmaoooo
B
what is their eye colour?
originally violet, but in her current form they're such a dark green that it's basically black
C
in what position do they sleep?
flat on her back, one hand on a dagger. ready to fight if she needs to
D
how do they decorate their own room?
Rhiannwen doesn't have a room in canon, she travels as much as she can and only stays in hostels or on the road. she's terrified that someone will think she's a true Risen. but her room would be... practical. probably very plain, to the point where it barely looks lived in. although in the vague post-canon future, she'd paint the walls bright blue, keep house plants, and have shelves for little gifts and trinkets that mean a lot to her. (it reminds Rhi that she's alive and safe and it's alright for her to enjoy things)
OC Question, if you would like one! For whoever you'd like to talk about.
Given their current abilities and if they were able to - would they rather be a combination of professions or master just one? For instance, be a jack of all trades and be able to use necromancy magic as well as nature magic, elementalist abilities and warrior ones, etc.
(@uselessidiotsquad)
:D thank you for this ask!!!! and the question is super interesting too. I think I'll answer for a few of my OCs though, because I can't quite decide who to answer for
Efalynn is my main OC, my Commander, and a necromancer (reaper at the moment). Trahearne was her mentor, and she really feels connected to necromancy, so she's definitely committed to becoming a master at it. but since becoming friends with Ffoirre and training with him over the past couple of months, she's picked up a few techniques from him for both daggers and greatswords, even though her dagger is mostly a magical focus and he prefers not to use greatswords, though he's good at using them. she loves using that to her advantage though, because people don't expect her to use these kinds of moves so no one defends against them and they strike true almost every time.
Ffoirre and Sasha are similar in that they would be different classes if they had any magical ability. Ffoirre would either be a mesmer or a thief depending on his affinity with magic, and he still prefers stealth, daggers, distractions and poison when fighting over brute force. (fun fact! it was very difficult for Efy to spar with him at first, because he fights in a similar way to her sister Rhiannwen, who got Zhaitan'ed. it brought back a lot of memories.) he isn't able to use magic at all though, so he sticks with being a warrior, but he really enjoyed spellbreaker training in Elona.
Sasha is an engineer with a particular affinity for fire. whether it's a flamethrower, a ball of napalm or incendiary ammo, they love burning stuff. and they especially love melting icebrood. she really wishes she could be an elementalist and channel the fire directly, but at the same time, they love their inventions and tinkering in her workshop to make the fires burn hotter and longer.
Rhiannwen is a thief, who I'm planning on training as a deadeye after she gets to lv80 because she's visibly undeadish and getting close to people can be... dangerous. but as a scion of Zhaitan, she finds channelling life force for necromancy much easier than she would otherwise. Efalynn would be overjoyed and happy to train her if she knew, but Rhi doesn't really enjoy using it unless she really has to. she doesn't like being reminded that she was basically Zhaitan's newest possession until it got taken down.
*raises hand* for rhia, if i can call her that, 1, 20, 27, 36 :D - moonlit-grove
you absolutely can call her that! although she'd probably stab you if she heard you lmao
1) What is your character's reaction to a minor inconvenience? Such as getting their jumper caught on a door handle?
"so. you have chosen to betray me"
(ok if she's comfortable she'll be dramatic for a couple seconds, then just fix it like its no big deal. if she's not, she'll fix it and pretend it never even happened.)
i answered this question on my phone hopefully it doesnt look too terrible on the desktop site
20) Does your character have a comfort item?
she does! it's a tiny dagger that she keeps hidden on her person at all times. it's not fancy or even particularly well-made, but Rhiannwen makes sure it stays in perfect condition, even if she doesn't remember why she has it. (fun fact: her sister Efalynn gave it to her just before they left the Grove, barely a week after they woke from the Dream.)
27) What are their opinions on children? Do they view children as sweet angels or evil crotch goblins?
Rhi does not look very friendly. she's a little bit body horror-y? so children tend to be afraid of her, which means she doesn't really like to be around them. although she likes children in theory. mostly, Rhi wishes she could be that happy and carefree. although siblings make her feel sort of sad, for a reason that she can't quite place.
36) Tell us something about your OC that doesn't make it onto the page?
Rhiannwen doesn't need to blink. she is not aware of this.
let’s go with timeline + 12 and/or 14 for rhi! :) -kerra-and-company
thanks for the ask! these two are pretty easy to combine actually, so I'll answer them both
12) the timeline in which they had a person in their life when they needed one the most.
14) the timeline in which they took a chance they didn’t in canon.
in this timeline, Rhiannwen met the Commander early. maybe her connection to the Dream wasn't severed as completely. maybe Zhaitan didn't order her away in time. maybe she just listened to her gut instinct. but she took the chance that, even though she had the face of an enemy, the purple sylvari wouldn't hurt her.
in this timeline, the Commander recognised Rhiannwen. she didn't know why the nickname came so easily to her lips, but it did, and the purple sylvari's eyes widened in shock and... was that hope? Rhiannwen's throat burned with a phantom pain, the ghost of a scar that never happened and now never would.
in this timeline, the Commander -- Efalynn -- gained Rhiannwen's trust, over time. it was difficult, with the voice of the Elder Dragon still roaring in her ear, and yet somehow Rhiannwen knew it spoke lies. she didn't fight the Pact forces, didn't make herself an enemy, didn't have to sneak around them in fear of her life.
in this timeline, Rhiannwen helped Efalynn with her research. they travelled Tyria together, and Rhiannwen's heart ached to see how her sister had been beaten down in so little time. they didn't talk much at first, and she knew her sister couldn't help comparing her to the Rhiannwen she knew in her Dream, but things got better.
in this timeline, Rhiannwen lived again and Efalynn never died.
