A haunting Smallspine Spookfish (Harriotta Haeckeli) for this week's #halloween themed #sundayfishsketch . This painting of this deep sea dweller was inspired by the Hydrographer Canyon video from NOOA's 2013 Okeanos Explorer Program and Nightmare Before Christmas's Zero. These 1.2m (4ft) cartilaginous fish live in the dark depths of the ocean, and use their huge snouts to sense their surroundings and find food.

They also have a venomous spine just in front of their dorsal fin.
