If you had to reimagine the story in a different universe, like a different decade or another city/state/country where would you put Dieter and Poppy?

This is such a fun question and made me really think about it. (His tummy is so yummy!!)

I think for decade, maybe early 2000s or the 70s… I don’t know why, those just popped into my head.

If I were to change the location… If the plot were to stay the same, there’s two places

Malibu, California

Los Alamos, California

I also thought about NYC, but it would probably entail some plot changing to make it work. But I love New York so much and think they would have some fun there too!

Maybe Poppy is the daughter of some rich financial millionaire, but she literally hate what money does to people so she likes to live a somewhat— aside from being a business owner. She owns a coffee shop and her best friend Diem is the shop manager. She loves art and rents and art studio where she teaches classes. Then we can throw Dieter moving back to NYC, where he grew up. Stays with Diem and Wren. Meets Poppy. And they lived happily ever after 💕

I have been stewing on this for the last couple of days and I'll be honest, I don't even know if I have an answer to this?

So let's explore our options...

Marcus Pike...

Okay, so out of the three this man here would be all over the concept of obnoxious coffee! He knows your favourite order off by heart. He also would have mapped out all the local coffee shops and narrowed it down to the fanciest - no chains here, no franchises, just some bougie downtown coffee shops in the capital. You'd never have to ask for an obnoxious coffee because he'd already be there with one before you knew you wanted one.

Joel Miller...

He has no clue. Before you, he wouldn't have a clue that coffee comes in any other option than black coffee or coffee and cream.

(Now I'm channelling Mr. Truly here on this answer, because I feel on this they're one and the same on this topic 😏)

So he'll get you that obnoxious coffee, but he's making you write it down if he's out without you. Or better yet, pre order it on the app, so all he has to do is tell them your name (he'll come home grumbling about how that was an ordeal in itself). But if you're in the car and you make him swing through the drive through? He's making you shout your order through the window.

However, he'll try a sip of your obnoxious coffee, and maybe next time you're ordering one he'll ask you to order him one too 😉

Frankie Morales...

This guy? He really doesn't get it, he's learnt how to drink his coffee black with his past in the military, anything else beyond him. But he pays attention, and he knows you always get something fancy when you're feeling like treating yourself. He doesn't always remember what your drink of choice is, so when he does go to order you something to cheer you up he's asking the baristas their opinion on what the fanciest coffee they have is. Because of this you usually get a lot of 'off menu' coffees which is equally awesome and frustrating as you can never get the same drink twice as Frankie has no clue what is in there.

So, sorry - what was the question again Jess?

Okay, if I have to choose, I'm going to have to go with Joel. How can I not? It would be my goal to convert this man to at least one obnoxious coffee of choice lol

I love seeing all of your WIPs! Now, you may think I'd ask about Sequins!Dieter (which I am intrigued about) buuuuut I'm more curious about The Thief! I don't think I've read much about him!

I'm so excited you asked about The Thief, it's been sat in my WIP folder for monnnnths! I started it but hit a bit of a road block of where I wanted to take it.

So it's based on the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone - the idea being that they only cross paths with one another during certain parts of the year in an almost cat and mouse game - both reversing the roles each time.

It gives off mythological/supernatural vibes, but it isn't - still working on the loose threads to tie it together.

But anyway, here's the moodboard that's been sitting in Canva gathering dust...

🥳 How are you going to celebrate when you achieve one of your writing goals?

I never really thought about this until I read @undercoverpena's post on how she celebrated finishing her series' with cake! So since then I've been thinking about how I want to celebrate finishing my writing goals for 2024.

I love me an obnoxious coffee (no real criteria, just anything that isn't just drip coffee with creamer) - not that I need much of an excuse for one. But I think I might go and treat myself to one and maybe take a page out of Jo's book with something sweet, or my next favourite thing, stationary! 😆 my goal for this year is to save and cut out some unnecessary things, so all of these things will definitely feel like a treat!

But for all of this to happen I have to actually finish something 😬 - I'm really hoping 2024 is the year of finishing several wip's!

Also, because I feel like I need to pay Pedro Tax™️ in return (just an excuse to post this gif really, not that I need one)...
