So I don't really want to spoil it too much, what it is that I read. I'll just say, it has to do with the character of Rhoshamandes.

Rhosh did some horrible things in the first PL book, thanks to the influence of Amel, and the royal council wants to execute him for it.

Lestat, however, is against it. In the books, it's kind of Lestat's own empathy and trying to understand what Amel can do to make people do what he wants that has Lestat against executing Rhosh.

In the show, however? Lestat will have firsthand experience and understanding of what Amel can influence people to do, which will make his avocation of sparing Rhosh's life for what he did because of Amel's influence have more of a direct and personal understanding to it when he does so.

So yeah, when I was reading the scene with Lestat advocating against killing Rhosh for what Amel influenced him to do? That was the moment I read when I was like, "Oh, that's why the show did the 1x05 fight!"

Because it'll now, in the show, give Lestat an even more personal understanding of everything that happened regarding what Rhosh did. And why he'll have the stance he does regarding not killing Rhosh... at that time.

Lestat will need a reason for why he continues to spare Rhosh's life, and the show has already set up that arc with a very valid reason.

I haven't read the books. What is the reason in the show?

Ok. So, in short, this is based upon Sam's comments about the show already bringing in Amel with what happened during the outside portion of the Loustat fight in 1x05. ⬇️

Amel is the spirit that fused with Akasha to create the first vampire. Amel can, essentially, possess vampires and cause them to have uncontrollable blackout rages of bloodthirsty violence. That is what happens in the PL books with Rhoshamandes. Amel overtakes him and spurs him via his emotions into violently killing Maharet and Khayman.

Now with that in mind, Lestat, in the books, refuses to condemn Rhosh for the killings. Lestat spares him and has mercy on him despite everyone else telling Lestat that Rhosh needs to be put to death. There's no real reason given for this mercy other than Lestat is just that kind and understanding. That....will not work in this show. Lestat will need a reason for that mercy.

Given what happened in 1x05 with Sam spilling that Amel is what was happening there, that will be Lestat's reason for having mercy on Rhosh. Lestat will know what it's like and will understand completely what happened, because it happened to him with Louis in 1x05 and Louis, the most important person in existence to Lestat, was gravely injured as a result of Lestat losing control under Amel's influence. Lestat will never get over that.

Now having said that, as I've always emphasized, I do not agree that the show should've done this, and I understand why people are resistant to this and outright deny Sam's comments, but he said it, and Rolin has also said it this year at SDCC about "this thing inside Lestat." Well, if you know the books and are already able to pick up the threads Rolin is putting down from the PL arc, this is where the show is going. It will be seasons down the road before this arc fully comes to fruition, but the threads are already established.

When news of Rhoshamandes being awake hit the court, the younger ones than her had nearly fled. The panic was palpable, and she felt like a mother hen quieting her chicks as she tried to assuage their fears. The worry that he would come and destroy everything they had built was real. But as each night passed, and there were no threats, no uninvited guests, things returned to normal. Normal for the castle.

What Rose had learned of the De Landens, they mostly wanted to be left alone. Or at least with each other. A tight knit bond secured all of them to one another, one that Rose both admired and envied. There was little in life that she didn't have, but a proper family was one of them. And with the court lacking many members of the Articulate, it was little wonder that her trip to Rhoshamandes's castle was a highlight of her year.

But that had been when he was sleeping. And for all of Benedict's reassurances, it had been that sleep that let her feel safe. But what about now? She knew where it was, how to get there, and could fly of her own accord. Perhaps that would be knowledge they regretted she had. As she planned her trip she doubted it would be the biggest of deals. After all, she was fairly weak in the blood, not very clever, and didn't mean anyone any harm. Except her victims of course.

Rose told no one her idea, sure that someone would convince her otherwise. How else was she to test her new friendships, if they could last with the master of that castle awake. In her backpack she carried only a package for Benedict, another sweater that reminded her so much of him that she knew he had to have it. Another Burberry, but perhaps that was the brand that suited him best. She'd found that most people into fashion gravitated to one fashion house out of subjective taste.

Smoothing her hair back as she lands before the intimidating front door, she wonders how many alarms she's already triggered. Her mind is open, foolishly, but she has nothing to hide. She knocks before testing to see if the door was open, her voice soft, "It's just me."
