As promised here are some couples in my RH headcanons and this is just part one~

Additionally some headcanon names because I have a lot of those! Since DJ Yellow already has the name Yellow taken, the yellow rap man is “Big Yellow”, or as everyone calls him, “Big”. I also call the two rap women by the names Scarlet and Indigo!

HELLOOOOO YES SORRY FOR MY LATENESS I HAD TO DRAG MYSELF THROUGH SOME GAY LITTLE BRAINROT AGAIN

• So I mean I think we’re all on the same page when we say fuck everything about Joe’s dad right? Marge Simpson hair lookin ass doesn’t even deserve a mention because he’s toxic but I will nevertheless put this out here because it is part of Joe’s headcanon characterization from me.

• He talks, just... not much. He’ll talk to you if you talk to him first, but he’s not the type to initiate conversation unless something genuinely important is happening.

• Despite training with nothing but pots, shot-put balls, soccer balls, lightbulbs, barrels, bombs and whatever else he is actually very capable of fighting and hurting someone. Even as a kid growing up it was kind of common knowledge among everyone who even sort of knew him that you don’t mess with Joe because he can and will move faster than you in a fight.

• On that note in part with how vigorously trained he was growing up and also how isolated he was there are a few social norms he doesn’t really get but generally the worst to expect from him is anything physical because as mentioned above, he can and will hurt you. High-fives and fist bumps especially discouraged because he’s not fully aware of how strong he is compared to other people and may dislocate your shoulder.

• Despite being so cold and distant he is a genuinely nice, kind guy, he just has trouble conveying it due to having pretty underdeveloped social skills.

• Aside from karate something else he’s pretty good at is cooking! He has to do a lot of it considering he has an energy-demanding diet to maintain so he’s just naturally gotten better at cooking (though he sometimes punches his own cooking pots off the counter just out of reflex)

• Thank you Remix 9 for giving me this headcanon but he totally owns a cat.

• Joe just has a habit of kind of being... there. Like he pops up everywhere, we don’t know where he came from or why he’s somewhere, but he’s there. Concerts, parks, snowy mountains or beaches, chances are if you are in a place, it shouldn’t be hard to find Joe nearby still training, as if he can just teleport or something.

Dog Ninja Headcanons... bc goodest boi

Sorry for having such late ask responses lately but I’ve had a mix of both low motivation and the want to actually attach some sketches related to the headcanons to the asks so these might take a while considering how inconsistent my momentum can be, sorry ;;

(That doodle in the bottom left was just supposed to be a gesture sketch and I likely spent more time on it than the other two combined, push-ups HARD)

I kinda always figured Dog Ninja was a shiba inu, or a german shepherd, some kind of pointy-eared dog given his helmet but it’s stated in either DS or Megamix (for the life of me can’t remember which game it was that said this in the reading material) but he’s actually a beagle. My full body design didn’t turn out too beagle like but those were the body colors I had given even if it didn’t match an,,, actual beagle too well

Also mentioned in reading material is that there’s very little work out there for a ninja these days so he’s pretty broke, especially in the weapons department. The game already says he needs money for buying shurikens! Personally I think he has maybe one or two ACTUAL shurikens that he never touches because he worries he’ll break or lose them and he does target practice on a board covered in that sticky fly paper with paper ones.

And to save money he also rooms with someone, that being Inu-Sensei, but despite their respective arts being pretty different they actually get along pretty well and don’t often get in each other’s way. Sometimes Inu-Sensei even tries to help him train but Dog Ninja has made it pretty clear he hates having whistles blown at him when he’s trying to warm up.

Final headcanon is that Dog Ninja is actually an amazing cook but only in very specific areas. He’s bad in the kitchen otherwise and would probably eat toaster waffles still cold, but this dog makes a mean stew or soup. Since he usually chops veggies for swordplay practice it’s actually a pretty efficient way of setting himself up for an easy post-training meal.

Do you have any headcanons about the space dancers? I've always seen them and the cosmic dancers as having a friendly rivalry and sometimes they'd to big collabs :00 Ive also always thought space gramps was like an uncle to the mini game characters

I can brew some up!

So I see the Space and Cosmic Dancers sharing the same connection between each other as I do the Tall Tappers—in their own four-person groups, they might be identical looking, but considering there’s a lot of weird and wild humanoid races in the RH universe, none of them are actually related, just of the same race. But they nevertheless see each other as a kind of adoptive family and both groups are really tight and call each other siblings and all that.

The rivalry between the groups is a mostly one sided one largely thanks to Space Gramps. Cosmic Girl likes to get on his nerves from time to time but I don’t think she actually views their “rivalry” as serious as Space Gramps does.

Also unrelated to the dancers themselves but I personally see Cosmic Girl as a trans woman 💙💙

The two groups of dancers generally aren’t likely to mingle a lot. Space Gramps has got this idea in his head that the Cosmic group is out to get them and tells his boys to never talk to them (they don’t take him very seriously) and Cosmic Girl and her dancers just don’t really care. It was originally the Space Dancers who branched off into Rhythm Rallying to help their focus between dance sessions, and the Cosmic Dancers picked it up later on.

While their dance moves are similar the main difference between the groups is the music styles they dance to. For the Space Dancers they tend to dance to poppier songs, electronica or even EDM at times whereas the Cosmic Dancers’ style is more focused on jazz and swing primarily.

And the last headcanon is silly but it’s existed since the moment I heard Space Gramps say words in English and I was disappointed at the voice that came out: Space Gramps needs to, at some point, be voiced by Danny DeVito because only Danny is capable of such a role.

I feel like living in a world full of the entire very quirky Rhythm Heaven cast, the Barista puts up with a lot. Like, sometimes he’s probably more like a bartender than a barista because he deals with literally all of the drama that gets brought into his cafe. Living in the RH universe is probably like having a circus in your backyard. Probably something like being in Florida. He kinda has tabs on everyone’s drama and gives out advice a lot.

I think he sees himself as very sophisticated for being a stray dog that now knows speech and runs a cafe, granted I think with my species headcanons some anthropomorphic animals of the series are just born that way like some of the other dogs, i.e. Dog Ninja or Baxter, but he wasn’t, just kind of a regular dog. And through the magic of ✨rhythm and flow✨ as per the usual in the series he just became more humanlike.

It also mentions in game he resents not having thumbs so I imagine he’s very bitter about that. I know he canonically wants to play guitar but I also think he might want to try doing latte art but he just can’t do it properly without actual opposable thumbs to manipulate his tools.

...the idea honestly gave me a really funny thought though that he hosts a weekly support group at the cafe for other anthropomorphic animals without thumbs in a rhythmic world where they just have solidarity in the things they can’t do and bounce theories off how to substitute thumbs off each other. Members probably consist of Baxter (Forthington is too much of a crackhead to care about his lack of thumbs, I’m sure he makes do in the worst ways possible), the Blue Birds, Inu-Sensei, (not Dog Ninja. Lucky guy has thumbs!) some members of the Frogettes, Mr. Chicken, the Giraffe, probably one of the Executives if not all of them and the Weasel Couple.

I have no idea where that train of thought came from but non-hominid support group is just entertaining to me...

Because I absolutely STAN Kung-Fu Ball and it’s probably my favorite endless game—I know the male character is pretty much just Young Cricket but shhh, unrelated headcanon time now

Since the students can breathe fire wouldn’t it be wild to have a sort of callback to Tram and Pauline since the pattern of their minigame is somewhat similar?? Like dude, imagine every time heat-fu gets called and it’s performed correctly they turned briefly into dragons to breathe fire....

oh BOY so after a session of super mario galaxy where I just thought this over like MAN do I have a whole headcanon soap opera for you!!

(I put way too much into these literal minigame characters jdhxhd it’s sad but it’s just what I attach myself to ;; )

So I always kinda subscribed to the headcanon that DJ Yellow and JJ would probably kill each other given the chance while Blue and the rocker disciple (who I call Andy) are just pretty chill with each other. But then I sat down and was thinking to myself “well, what’s got their musical rivalry so hostile, rivals can be rivals without hating each other even if they don’t really ‘get’ each other’s musical styles right?”

SO.

Allow me to propose... that JJ and DJ Yellow were childhood friends who had a major falling out?

Because all the characters I write with have a somewhat or majorly developed backstory in pure headcanon (I’m embarrassed by how in depth I do these things hehdjdhdj—) I’ve come up with something. Yellow’s a high energy character, and as a kid, I think this was especially apparent. Like... have you guys ever played Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon? In my eyes, kid Yellow is like the partner in that game, high energy, mischevious, and a lot of people found him irritating.

As for the ages of these four characters I generally think that from oldest to youngest it goes JJ, Blue, Yellow, then Andy. In their childhood JJ was about a year older than Yellow and because he was the scary emo kid who was taller than everyone for some reason even at a really young age, so Yellow just literally attached myself to him and said “hey. you’re the scary kid from the grade above me, please hang out with me so these other kids will leave me alone”

It was a begrudging friendship at first because JJ’s a major loner and Yellow was also crazy high energy but the two were childhood friends who stuck together up until late high school when they started pursuing their respective musical careers.

How did the falling out happen? I’m not entirely sure! I have some ideas but nothing that’s like “ this is the for sure in my canon” right now. It has given me some real good writing ideas though c;
