Ribofunk + GURPS Biotech is making me realize that no major piece of media has taken biopunk/biotech fiction to the levels that it ought to.
like, I can't be the only one that's noticed this right? Splicing animal DNA with humans is only the beginning, where are the movies with specialized human species and organic utilities? Where are the civilizations that are so completely warped by biotech that they're essentially alien?
Level background by Alexandr Iwaac from the game "Exit: A Biodelic Adventure" we are making. Meet the lovecraftian(ish) shoggoth, a biocomputer with mutable intertacles. Player can change shoggoth's tentacles into different interfaces using genes downloaded from a bioflash drive.
The tropes had been expertly reverse-engineered from a sampling of meditating monks: in the case of Jinx’s drink, from the mind of the Dalai Lama himself. In a minute or so, the world took on a shimmering translucence, and I felt connected to the whole universe. Nothing mattered, but everything counted.
Paul Di Filippo, Ribofunk
Jaharzoool Speed entity
A Non-Euclidean satellite being that orbits many folds in space, if perceived correctly, grants individuals incredible speed for something in their lives. Although often ambiguous as to what specifically that will be, causing confusing consequences. Many a Bio punk and Ribofunk seek its speed buffing nature all the same.
Bio punk ░TYPΣ░ RhANGUD heavy rematerializer
This humble caterpillar is a gene donor for a well-known drink called zhirble. Concept art by Andrey Kovalev for the point'n'click adventure game "Exit: A Biodelic Adventure" we are making.
Ribofunk Manifesto by Paul Di Filippo
Bass and Varley. Finally, a temporary culmination in Bear's Blood Music and Sterling's Schismatrix.
This is the barest outline. Once exposed, the vein gleams brightly. Our goal must be to smelt and refine the crude ore, to craft a speculative fiction which does not pretend that homo sapiens will even still look the same fifty years from now.
We must be as widespread as ubiquitin, forging a philosophy that ties all organisms from yeast to man into a renewed great chain of being.
Slogans
What good is a movement without a slogan?
Here are a few:
DNA to others as you would have them DNA to you.
Anatomy is destiny--but anatomy is malleable.
Gregor Mendel died for your sins.
Redraw your MAP2
Strobe your lobes.
Match it, batch it, latch it.
Snap the gap.
Axe your axons.
