I got the seedlings for rice cake, so I prepared for rice planting behind my house.  I did all by my hands without using a machine.  I am also interested in Ao’s hair pattern when he take a bath.  His hair looks like rivers flowing into the sea.

すじまきの時に余裕がなくて準備できなかった餅米の苗をいただけることになり急遽、家の裏の田んぼの代掻きをして田植えの準備をする。小さな田んぼは結局機械を使わず全て人力で耕運することに。

とにかくこの冬いただいた餅米でつくった玄米餅の味が忘れられないのだ。ああ、涎が。

涎といえば、あおくんなのだが、ずっと気になっていたことが。

風呂に入ったときのあおの濡れた髪の毛の模様？が面白い。今日は頭が地球で大海原に流れ込む幾筋もの大河のように見えた、のは僕だけだろうか？

今日はなんだか肌寒く、緑がいつもより色濃く感じた日だった。

Rice Planting in Iizaka

This weekend I had a wonderful time with my friends from the Fukushima Kenpoku Development Bureau. With the help of a special tourist ticket, we could enjoy all the delights of Iizaka Onsen before planting rice together in a local paddy field. Included with the ticket was the return train fare to Fukushima station, some sake tasting, lunch in a restaurant of our choice and a dip in the local hot spring. Unbelievable!

  Our first stop was the information centre for a taste of some award-winning sake. We also received some helpful maps with information on fun things to do around the town. Then we went on a small walking tour and sampled some local delicacies before stopping for a delicious sushi lunch. With full stomachs we departed for the rice fields and prepared for planting!

A large group of locals had assembled for the event including neighbourhood children, sake brewers, players from the Fukushima United soccer team and a whole host of frogs and insects! The latter were not too happy about our presence but they kindly moved aside when the planting began. In one long row, we all advanced into the field one step at a time and in about one hour we had the whole paddy filled with little rice seedlings. It was a good day's work.

  After that we were able to relax and clean ourselves at a steamy hot spring before rejoining the rest of the group for a dinner party. Again we were treated to some award-winning sake and delicious food including top-quality onsen tamago(eggs) and gyoza(dumplings). Best of all, we could chat and get to know the local Fukushima residents who are always so friendly and welcoming. It was a very fulfilling day, thank you Ken for inviting me to participate!

    飯坂温泉での田植え

  今週末、福島県県北地方振興局の友人たちと素晴らしい時間を過ごしました。特別企画の旅行チケットの力を借りて、田植えをする前、私たちは飯坂温泉の「いいもの」を楽しむことができました。そのチケットには、往復の電車賃とお酒の試飲と、好きなレストランでの食事と地元の温泉体験も含まれていました。信じられない！

最初に立ち寄ったのは飯坂のインフォメーションセンター。そこでコンテストで受賞した日本酒を試飲して、街歩きにほんとうに役に立ついくつかの地図も受け取りました。それから私たちは町中散策をして、お寿司屋さんでランチする前に地元のおいしいものをいくつか試食しました。満腹の状態で、私たちは田植えの準備のために田んぼに向かいました！

私たちが着いた時には、地元の子どもたちや酒蔵、福島ユナイテッドのサッカー選手、そしてたくさんのカエルや虫たちが集まっていました！

カエルや虫たちは私たちの登場を喜んでいないようでしたが、田植えを始めるころには親切にもちょっと脇によけてくれました。

長い一列の線に沿って、私たちは一歩一歩田んぼの中を進みました。だいたい一時間ぐらいで、その田んぼを苗でいっぱいにしました（田植えを終了しました）。とても素晴らしい一日のお仕事でした。

その後、汚れを落とすために蒸気でいっぱいの温泉に入ってリラックスしました。そしてその後、夕食で田植えメンバーたちに合流しました。ここでも、コンテスト受賞酒や最高ランクの温泉たまごやギョウザなどの地元のおいしいものをごちそうになりました。なんといっても、私たちはとてもフレンドリーで気さくなふくしまの地元の方々と話して、知り合いになることができました。本当に充実した一日でした。ケンさん、誘ってくれてありがとう。

『Day434-181』

Finally starting rice planting.  It’s a long way to go.

田植え始めました。まるで夏の終わりに「冷やし中華始めました」ってのぼりを出すラーメン屋の気分だ。

先は長い。スタンプラリーじゃないけど、下はわが家の棚田マップ（緑の部分が田植え終了）。残り５反。

Collage students came to help for rice planting.  Yes, we are having a good time.

東京の大学生が田植えの手伝いに来てくれた。田植えして、温泉入って、囲炉裏で肉焼いて、楽しい１日。明日もまたゲストが来てくれる。

田植え２日目。本日より、自分で育苗したコシヒカリを（昨日はいただいた黄金餅だった）。昨年一緒に研修をうけたイナカレッジ同期の堤さんがヘルプに来てくれた。

おかげで棚田＃2をゲット。残り4.4反。
