Winter still had its cold grasp upon Castle Rock, having a wide blanket of snow covering the ground and slicking the roads with ice. With such dodgy conditions, you and Richie had been cooped up in your parents home, watching the newly released show âRawhideâ on the television while snuggling up on the sofa. Richie had his head laid on your lap and his legs dangling off the arm of the sofa as his attention was on the television. As you also kept your eyes upon the tv screen, running your fingers through his hair and massaging his scalp. âAre you tired of cowboys yet?â Richie asked in a soft tone as he turned his head to look at you.
âMaybe, but I donât think Iâll ever be tired of Clint Eastwood.â You said as you looked down to meet your boyfriendâs gaze. âIf youâre so bored then what do you want to do?â you questioned as you pushed back his hair, exposing his forehead. With your question, you saw a grin appear on Eyeballâs face and it could only mean one thing.
Eyeball quickly sat up and pushed your back against the sofa and got atop of you. âYou, Doll.â He said excitedly as he went for his belt, hastily undoing it. It was honestly surprising how excited this boy could get in a matter of seconds.
As Richie dipped his head down to place a kiss on your lips, you placed a hand upon his chest and pushed him away. âNot today, Richie.â You stated and he got off of you, but before he did, he placed a kiss on your cheek. âYou know what we should do?â you brought up as you stood up, looking down at Eyeball, who stayed seated. You had clearly peaked his interest as he looked up at you, raising an eyebrow. âWe should go sledding.â You said with a smile and Eyeball just laughed in response and leaned back against the sofa.
âNow Doll, we ainât fourteen anymore.â Eyeball chuckled as he smirked, crossing his arms against his chest, looking at you in amusement. It was true, the last time the two of you went sledding, both of you were fourteen and thatâs when the two of you were only just friends.
âOkay and?â You huffed as you kicked Eyeballâs shin before you grabbed his hand, trying to pull him up. â Itâd be fun.â you sighed as you plopped yourself down next to Eyeball, resting your head against his shoulder, looking up at him. â Or are you scared of being teased by the gang?â You questioned as you squinted your eyes slightly, interrogating your boyfriend.
âOf course not!â Eyeball quickly said, putting his hands up in a defensive manner, looking at you as if you had said the most deranged thing. âIâll only go if you buy me a beer.â Richie offered as he raised his brows,â Or maybe just a kiss.â he then suggested.
âSometimes I donât like you.â You grumbled before you leaned in and placed a soft kiss against Richieâs lips. âNow get up.â You demanded as you pushed yourself up and made your way to the coat closet, grabbing yours and an extra one for Eyeball. Richie had finally got up from the sofa once he saw you put your shoes on, putting on his after you. You handed the coat to Richie and he gave you a rather disgusted look. It was already odd that Eyeball had been wearing a long sleeve shirt today, but a coat? âYou better put it on.â You threatened as you grabbed gloves for the both of you and when you turned around, you saw Eyeball wearing the coat, but he refused to zip it up.
âLemme see the gloves, Doll face,â Eyeball said as he took the gloves out of your hand and took your hands in his. Eyeball then helped put the gloves on your hands, doing it gently. As he finished, He placed a kiss upon your forehead.
âThank you, Richie.â you said and you couldnât help but to smile. âYouâre too sweet.â You spoke as you slipped the gloves on Eyeballâs hand. When you looked up to meet your boyfriendâs gaze, he looked as if he was truly disgusted. Eyeball truly didnât mind you calling him âRichieâ or âsweetâ, but he had a reputation to keep up with and a constant reminder for you not to talk like that in front of the boys or heâd never hear the end of it. âNow câmon, let's go before Ace decides to show up.â You said as you grabbed Richieâs hand and led him to the garage, grabbing the family sled.
Once the two of you got the sled out of the garage, you and Eyeball started your journey to your sledding spot. The sledding spot was just past the middle school and behind the nearing neighborhood, then just up the hill, thatâs where you and Eyeball hung out for the first time. Eyeball laced his fingers with yours, swinging both of your arms back and forth. It was obvious he wasnât worried that his friends would see him, they usually didnât drive down this way nor did they risk driving in these icy conditions. They were most likely getting drunk at Aceâs house.
The walk wasnât too long, but the both of you couldnât feel your toes afterwards. As you reached upon the hill, memories flooded back from the first time you were here with Richie. Gosh, you had such a fat crush on him and it was now obvious that Richie was also sweet on you.
âI still remember you throwing that snowball at the back of my head.â Eyeball said, bringing you out of your thoughts, you couldnât help but to laugh.
âAnd I still remember it being rather funny.â You teased as you looked at him with a smile, reaching up and poking his nose. â I also remember being so sweet on you.â You smiled, a blush rising and heating up your cheeks. Eyeball also smiled as he tucked his fists into his coat pockets.
âSo was I.â Eyeball said as he started walking up to the top of the hill. âAre you coming or not?â And with that you started running up, trying to beat him to the top. Once Eyeball noticed that you were trying to race, he started running as well, but was slowed down by the snow. You had almost beat him, but Eyeball tackled you to the soft ground covered in snow. As you hit the ground, you accidentally let go of the sled and the two of you watched it quickly slide down the hill.
âOh I hate you, Richard Chambers.â You laughed as you laid against the ground, Eyeball right beside you, who couldnât contain his laughter.
Eyeball turned over and met your gaze, gently caressing your cheek with his gloved hand. âDonât lie, you love me.â He smiled as he rested his forehead against yours. âYouâre the most beautiful girl Iâve ever seen.â He whispered underneath his breath, getting lost in your eyes.
âMaybe I do love my Richie.â you say as yours and Eyeballâs noses gently bump each other. You were truly lost in the moment, this is what you wished had happened in the years before.
âI remember how bad I wanted to kiss you when we first went sledding together.â Richie gently said as he lightly grabbed your chin, then leaning down and kissing you as you both laid in the snow.

Eyeball parked his car at the payphone and limped out. He just got into a fight with his father. The worst he had been in. He picked up the phone a put a nickle in and dialed.
"Hello"? Your groggy voice made Eyeball sigh. He hated to wake you. But you were the only one he wanted.Â
"I need you". Eyeballs lip quivered as he looked around the empty street.
"Where are you"? You didnt even have to ask who it was. When you hear those words you knew who it was.
"Outside the general store". Eyeball gulped down his tears.
"I'm on my way". Putting the phone down you grabbed your coat and slipped on your shoes. The general store wasnt far from your house. You snuck out and started running down the street.
Eyeball sat on the curb, his head was in his hands as he sobbed quietly to himself.
"Richard"! You called out to him as you saw him. You ran faster to him as he looked up.
He didn't move. You sat down beside him and pulled him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around your torso and cried. You never seen him like this before. Never. Something really awful must have happened.
"Rich, what happen"? You ran your hand over his head.
"My ma. She passed".
"Oh god, Rich, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry". You whispered softly to him, rocking him back and forth.
"Where is she"?
"They came and got her. Pop, lost it". Eyeball released you and sat up. The moon was shining, the black eye, busted lip and gash on Eyeballs cheek was very clear.
"He did this to you"? Your trembling hands cradled his face.
Eyeball nodded. "He got Chris too. Bad. I walked in on them. He had Chris cornered, hitting him and kicking him. He thinks we had something to do with her dying". Eyeball scoffed.
"I'm so sorry, Rich. Where's Chris now"? You asked getting worried.
"He ran off when Pop came after me. I tried to fight him. But he's drunk and the liquor gives him super strength. I can't deal with this anymore, Y/N. I can't. I don't want too". Eyeball sobbed into your shoulder. You wrapped your arms around him and held him tight.
"What can I do"?
"Just hold me". Richard mumbled through his tears.
You hated seeing him this way. It was rare occasion for Eyeball to show his feelings. It all just hit him like a ton of bricks.
"I love you so much, Rich. I'm not going to let anything else happen to you. Let's go home". You helped him up, wrapping your arms around his waist you both walked back to your house.
You helped him out of his jacket and converses and into bed. You snuggled close to him. He laid his head on your chest. Your hair combed through his curls.
"My mom wasn't the best mom, but she was my mom. I'm gonna miss her". Eyeball mumbled, his eyes were getting heavy.
"I know. Just remember she loved you and tried her best. Keep the happy memories in your heart". You kissed his head.
Eyeball was out, you laid there running your hand through his hair and drifted off yourself.
Morning came, Eyeball and you went down stairs for breakfast. Your mom and dad already knew what happened before you could explain.
"Do you know where your mom will be buried"? Your dad asked Rich.
"No sir. My Aunt Martha, my moms sister is coming into town to take care of it. I'm going to see if Chris and I could stay with her until I can get a place of my own. Or just have her take Chris. We cant stay with our dad".
"Where will you go"?
"I can crash with my friends. Sleep in my car if I have too". Eyeball sighed.
Your father and mother looked at each other sympathetic.
"If you'd like, Chris and you could stay here. We have the basement that needs a little work but it'll be a great room for you two". Your father suggested.
"Really"? You grinned.
"Only until Richard graduates and gets a place of his own".
"I dont know what to say, sir. Thank you". Eyeball sighed with a smile.
"But. There will be rules. I must be out of my mind to let my daughters boyfriend live in my house but I know what it's like to have an abusive father and have someone take me in. Dont make me regret it, son".
"I won't. I promise".
After breakfast, Eyeball and your father went to the Chamber residence to get Chris's and his stuff. The police came along just in case. You and your mother fixed up the basement for them. It wasn't the best but it would do for now. Eyeball was just grateful that him and Chris had a safe place to lay their head.
