I am so excited for netflix's new show, the body, but I am already so fucking pissed with the way they're treating it. Like why can't we ever give a wlw show a fucking chance I am so tireddddddd 😭😭😭. Like this is a horror thriller show and the girls have a Halloween costumes, why is the drop date in November????? Like its a perfect show for halloweekend. And its not even like a good date in November. Its not right after Halloween when people are still feeling the spirit and its not close enough to Thanksgiving when people have time off. Its on a random ass Wednesday??? Like whhyyyyyyy??? I feel like the perfect date would be like a week before Halloween to drive up attention and then have like a nice little watch on Halloween but instead its on a Wednesday in November. Like it hasn't even come out and im already tired. We literally have to fight tooth and damn nail to get anything sapphic and this show is just another example of how wlw media is treated. We don't even have a teaser or anything like maybe make a cute little quiz about which characters you'd be or like mood boards so people could be attracted to the aesthetic. But all we got was a couple photos for a show coming out in three months. But fucking off campus and my life with the flop boys gets 11 different seasons 😐. I AM SOOOOOOO SICK. Anyway I will still be watching 🥲. This is your reminder to support sapphic media.

Feminist Visual Activism and the Body

This book examines contemporary feminist visual activism(s) through the lens of embodiment(s). The contributors explore how the arts articulate and engage with the current sense of crisis and political concerns (e.g. equality,　decolonisation, social justice, democracy, precarity, vulnerability), negotiated with and through the body. Drawing upon the legacy of feminist art historical critique, the book scrutinises activist strategies, practices and resilience techniques in intersectional and transnational frameworks. It interrogates how the arts enable the creation of civil and political resilience, become engaged with politics as a response to disaster capitalism and attempt to reform and improve society. I joined the Institute of Art History of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in 2022 where I work as a Researcher. My work is situated within feminist art history, theory and practice, focusing on visual activism and artivism within transnational global frameworks. I research aesthetic mobilisation and activation of women’s rights for social justice, women’s agency and ways of visibilising her-stories. These are explored through artistic and visual practices informed by and committed to feminism and ethics of care. I work with and on contemporary artists and have a developing curatorial practice that expands my interests in collaborative and collective relationships and interdependencies in mediating voices and knowledges. Previously, I worked as a Senior Lecturer in Cultural and Historical Studies at the University of the Arts London, and in other UK Higher Education institutions. In 2018 I was solicited to become an Associate Research Fellow at the Valand Academy at the University of Gothenburg; and in 2021 I joined the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, Poland as a Visiting Professor. As an experienced doctoral supervisor I am also regularly invited to contribute to doctoral programmes at the Royal College of Art in London and the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga. I am a Member of the Editorial Board of the highly influential academic journal Third Text and I I hold leadership position on national and international panels and professional committees, for example I am a member of the Paradox Fine Art European Forum Steering Group Recent publications include: book (co-edited with Dr. Catherine Dormor) Transnational Belonging and Female Agency in the Arts (forthcoming 2022); book (edited) Feminist Visual Activism and the Body (2021); chapter (co-authored with Dr. Alexandra Kokoli) ‘Aftershocks and (Un)belongings: Reflecting on Home Strike’, in Meskimmon, M. and Photiou, M. (eds.) (2021) Art, Borders and Belonging: On Home and Migration in the Twenty-First Century. New York: Bloomsbury. Research interests: critical theory, feminist aesthetics, visual activism, artivism, ethics of care, women's art and design practice, contemporary art practice in historical, critical and philosophical contexts, critical approaches to visual culture, practice as research, fashion theory.
