The last episode of the The Real Ghostbusters aired on October 5, 1991. The series ran for 7 seasons (the last season only had 4 episodes) and 140 episodes. "The Real" in the title was to help avoid problems with Filmation who actually owned the title "Ghostbusters" (an issue the movie struggled with as well and even filmed some scenes with an alternate name for the group). Over the series, ABC and their consulting firm Q5 forced changes on the show, including major changes to the character Janine Melnitz. J Michael Straczynski quit over the interference. The show started with Lorenzo Music as Dr Peter Venkman, Maurice LeMarche as Dr Egon Spengler, Arseneo Hall as Winston Zeddemore, Frank Welker as Dr Raymond Stantz and Slimer, and Laura Summer as Janine Melnitz. By the last episode the cast was made up of Dave Coulier as Peter Venkman, LaMarche as Egon Spengler, Buster Jones as Winston Zeddemore, Welker as Dr Raymond Stantz and Slimer, and Kath Soucie as Janine Melnitz. "BIG ED" ZEDDEMORE

Edward Zeddemore (also known as Big Ed) is Winston Zeddemore's father. Initially, he was not proud of his son's career choice.

Big Ed is a construction foreman but has experience in using dynamite. He wears one half of a family heirloom while Winston owns the other half. He seems to not believe in much of anything other than what is fact and practical. He, however, cares about his son. When Winston was a child, Ed once owned an old truck with a faulty lock so he rigged himself a special door opener.

Ed didn't realize that Winston remembered this and took it to heart in his adult life. When Winston left the construction business and became a GHOSTBUSTERS, a rift seems to have formed between the two. Ed thinks the GHOSTBUSTERS are frauds because in his mind, ghosts do not exist.

During a dig in Brooklyn, an extra-dimensional hole appeared. Ed dismissed it and tried to use a bulldozer then dynamite the cover it up and continue building. When that failed, Ed was about to get hit by the Collector's agents, those who expanded the hole, when the GHOSTBUSTERS intervened. Ed refused Winston's help but the two were taken and became prisoners of the Collector.

It turned out that Ed and Winston's heirlooms were the two halves of what the Collector was looking for. Ed assessed his character, decided to trust him, and gave him the piece. The Collector got his freedom and teleported everyone and everything back to the physical plane.

Ghostbusters: The Supernatural Spectacular is a novelization written by Richard Mueller based on the first film. It was published by A Tom Doherty Associates Book (TOR) in 1985.

The story was expanded on in the novelization and covered, among other things, deleted scenes and family histories of many of the Ghostbusters. Interestingly, the two bums Harlan Bojay and Robert Learned Coombs are in much of it, in between parts in the story.

JIM VENKMAN

Jim Venkman (voiced originally by Lorenzo Music and later by Dave Coulier) is Dr. Peter Venkman's father and is also known to be a con man, however not a very good one.

Jim is not a bad person, he just can't make an honest buck. He has an outgoing personality sort of like his son Peter. He seems to care about his son even as he tricks and cons him. He causes conflict to all around due to his nature. The fast talker element of Peter's personality is definitely inherited from Jim. Peter still displays a significantly higher degree of personal ethics than his father, as his knack for fast talking isn't directed towards defrauding others, just talking the team's way out of trouble, getting them the best business deal possible, and making himself look good to prospective women.

In The Real Ghostbusters, it is shown that Peter doesn't get along well with his father but does care about him. The rest of the Ghostbusters seem to like him to a degree, and are pretty civil to him, but they don't really trust him.

Jim dresses similar to a vaudeville-era con artist stereotype. He and Peter do share a slight family resemblance, both possess the same chin and facial features. However it appears Peter got his hair from his mother's side. Jim has been known to either wear a rather unconvincing toupee on occasion. It's also possible to be just a bad comb over.
