I actually had another realisation, Richard Gadd mentioned someone once told him that resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die and I’m wondering if he thought of that and and the hospital scene is kind of questioning that because it’s sort of like well Ruben kind of did get his revenge in the sense that Niall is basically living off Ruben‘s money unintentionally.
To be honest I’m not sure if we can really take at face value what Ruben said about him supporting Niall financially being his revenge, like I’m sure that he must have gotten some satisfaction of seeing that Niall’s life didn’t turn out so well as it seemed it would, and himself doing better to the point of being able to secretly be basically his sugar daddy must have made him feel really powerful and masculine, but I think his decision to help came from something much tender than what he presented when they were discussing the subject, like he decided to twist to make it ugly due to the circumstances that lead to them meeting again.
Like the Harrison Ford poster, there’s no way Lori decided to buy that for Niall, and for me that shows him not only using his money to cover Niall’s needs but wanting to kinda spoil him, to secretly being the cause of something that would bring him joy.
Lol now I’m picturing Lori opening her door and there is Ruben holding that framed poster telling her to give it to Niall, there’s no way she didn’t call him a slur in her head that day.
going to read husbands in preparation for Richard‘s role on the series. But instead of the other actors I’m just going to imagine Richard in various wigs and facial hair.
i didn't know the husbands was based on a book! apparently a very well loved book, shows what i know. now i have to fetch it, the concept really intrigued me.
and well. if ever someone had the range to pull that off...

They both remind me of my first love!
okay maybe I need to rewatch but what exactly do we think Niall took that is Ruben‘s? I am guessing that the child that Ruben has with Mona is in fact actually Niall‘s, which in a way actually makes it more fucked up because Niall is essentially repeating the cycle of half brothers/step brothers - bot,h Niall‘s son's may have an equally fucked up relationship (however, maybe not considering Mona a better parent than Niall and Ruben's).
or perhaps it’s the 30k that Ruben lent Niall, and Niall after success with the book never actually paid him back OR maybe in terms of the book it’s from Niall‘s perspective and Ruben will never share his side of the story, cause Niall has essentially created a narrative onto Ruben, so it’s like he can’t escape it in the sense of he’s been silenced by Niall‘s narrative. But then again Ruben was originally okay with it, but he probably hadn’t read the book.
So I do think the most likely scenario is he talking about Niall being the bio!dad of Mona's child, though I'm not sure if they go to the most obvious scenario. I do think the book might be it, I think if Niall made Ruben's character in the book to reveal he was molested as a child it would really fuck him up, and even if it didn't just to read how Niall sees him might really hurt him, I think there was a quote from a interview about how Ruben doesn't really see himself as a violent person but as someone driven to violence due to unfair circunstances, and I think he always saw himself as Niall's protector, to discover himself as a source of real fear for him might fuck him up a bit, and if he might accept Niall's version of their story it's something I have no idea, but I think he saying Niall just needs to listen might be he telling their version of their story the way he sees it. It all makes me think a little bit of this Richard Siken quote : "“I’ve been rereading your story. I think it’s about me in a way that might not be flattering, but that’s okay. We dream and dream of being seen as we really are and then finally someone looks at us and sees us truly and we fail to measure up. Anyway: story received, story included. You looked at me long enough to see something mysterioso under all the gruff and bluster. Thanks. Sometimes you get so close to someone you end up on the other side of them.”
I do think there could be something interesting done with their kids, like maybe the last shot of the show could be the boys interacting and we see some pattern that is similar to the Ruben/Niall dynamic, it would be kinda bleak but it might make an interesting point about the cycle not breaking, and echos of them remaining even when themselves won't if the romeo and juliet ending does happen.
I feel like I can’t do anything but just doomscrolling because I am still thinking about Half Man, it’s a lot to process
The only thing that is stopping me from doing the same is the fact that I'm at work right now, though I keep checking some of the blogs that post a lot about it in between lab exams.
In terms of fandom I think it could still keep going for a while even without new episodes, like there's a lot to analyze and possible plots for fanfic, after I finished the episode I had two possible ideas for plots that could be interesting : The first a canon divergence AU where when Ruben was running from the cops after assaulting Benji that he took Niall with him and they spend those 9 days together. The second a time regressor au where after dying in the barn Niall or Ruben (or both of them) awake in the past in their teen bodies and try to live better avoiding the pitfalls from their first life, though tbh those would probably be longer fics and after finishing my 10K fix fic for them the day before yesterday I'm in the mood to tackle a oneshot for my next writing project (btw if anyone reading this would like to use these plot ideas feel free to do it, because I would love to read it)
The man in the back is an accurate depiction of me @ Jamie and Richard at the moment 😄, or perhaps how the fandom sees both of them.
Lol same ^_^ They're so lovely, every interview I see/read of them they are gushing about each other and it really warms my heart
