Okay I have to say that I really dig Nocturne!Richter's "I'd let the world fall to darkness and ruin just to save her" moment

I just think about it so often since I finished watching Season 2

Like, it's not as if I hadn't seen spoilers before I saw the scene myself, but you know how most scenes like this go. I was prepared to see a scene where Richter was being shown off for all the power he has getting ready to burn down the world with his hands after losing Annette before Alucard holds him back

So no part of me was prepared to watch the actual scene. Richter's not shown off in all his power ready to burn down the world in revenge

He's hugging Annette's waist tight, begging for Sekhmet to stop possessing her, to let her go. Annette's body is this close to perishing under the strain of being Sekhmet's vessel, and she has to take on every part of her for the world to be saved

"You'll kill her, Sekhmet. You'll kill Annette."

"I don't care about the world. I don't care if we live in eternal fucking darkness. Leave her alone. Leave Annette alone!"

He's begging desperately for her life to be spared at all costs. And, rather than holding Richter back with his strength, Alucard (someone who understands the pain of loss) simply puts a comforting hand on Richter's back, right over his family crest.

"My friend."

"You know that's not what she'd want."

And so Richter grits his teeth and relents.

He lets her go.

I am incredibly normal about Nocturne!Annette having vampiric teeth while Sekhmet is possessing her

Nocturne!Richette + Alurichter except both Annette and Alucard are dhampirs... 👉👈

The words of a person (me) who is clearly grasping at crumbs of main character dudes actually being shown to care about their girlfriends: You see one of the reasons Rondo of Blood (1993) and Richter Belmont are great is because Richter is both very kind while being entirely uninterested in persuing romance with others when Tera calls him a guardian angel and Iris dresses one of his wounds, but then when he goes to save Annette he's calling out for her and the first thing he does is hug her and hold her tight because he's so glad to find her alive

After a minute had passed, the man’s eyes—a deep, sea-blue—fluttered open once more. “So, it’s been…four years…” he whispered to the sky, voice wistful, yet fatigued almost. Soon enough, his eyes drifted down to the dark, ancient wood ahead. One of the few rays of moonlight, which struggled to peek between the branches of the tall oak trees, fell upon centimeters of exposed collarbone, laid bare due only to the deep v-cut of the man’s shirt collar. This loose, pure-white button-up was tucked into a pair of pale grey trousers, which were pulled up to his waist, and held up by a thick, brown-leather belt. His large, square-shaped, silver belt-buckle caught another of the moon’s rays, causing the metal to glint whenever he shifted his weight between his feet. Four years since I took up the duty of the hunters before me, and slew the legendary vampire… –~~~* In which, under the watchful eye of the full moon, Richter Belmont disappears.

You know sometimes you set out to write a fic quickly to get an idea out of your head so you can be normal later, and weeks later you end up with 15k, a new hyperfixation, a new blorbo, and lowkey obsessed with a rarepair.

There was a point in the process of writing this that I (for some reason) fully believed I could get away with tagging it as gen, but the eroticism was so strong that I'd look like a fool to pretend there's nothing there between Dracula and Richter in this fic, so I ship tagged it. Ultimately, though, I do feel like the main focus of this fic is the exploration of concept (that being what happened the night Richter disappeared 4 years after Rondo of Blood) and the character study nature of it.

In any case, I do hope someone out there enjoys this!

I also hope that it doesn't age too poorly once I finally play sotn and rondo of bood myself.
