Micah, Jason and I took in black midi last night at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco.  I’m still trying to process what I saw and heard.  Today, I’ve decided to just listen to pure pop.

Hellzapoppin Records (France) puts out some of the most Flying Nun influenced pop around.  I’d posted about EggS last year, but I feel the need to put this label and their bands back on my radar. 

Bands are either from Italy or France, but all sound like mid-80s Flying Nun.  Imagine seeing The Clean or The 3Ds in their heyday.  Now imagine seeing some of the Australian bands (Scott & Charlene’s Wedding). 

Hellzapoppin is releasing Don Idiot soon.  Right now, it’s only digital, but enjoy the one song for now.

Our favorite gooey slinking LA troubadours slenderbodies are back with a new cut off their much anticipated debut album! The pair, signed to Universal Island, brings us a groovy slice of their trademark sylphlike and porous alt pop sound on ‘arrival’, our latest inebriating taste from forthcoming full length Komorebi. Muggy hypnotic ‘arrival’ is a woozy coasting, tipsy skating torrent of molten vocals, slithering beats, and dappled guitar. Watch slenderbodies’ music video for ‘arrival’ below. Though I’ve had the pleasure of catching Max Vehuni and Benji Cormack a number of times live, both here at home and at SXSW, I can’t wait for the duo to take the Popscene stage at Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on September 27th. Anika Solo US Tour this January 2019

I am happy to announce that i will be returning to the US for a short solo tour this coming January!

Hello Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn NYC, Fort Worth, LA, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Atlanta!

There’ll be voice, confusing, disturbing sounds, Berlin beats, mausoleum guitar - check it.

For the first time, the multi-faceted poet, singer and musician takes to the stage alone, boldly reinterpreting the original tracks from the LP and EP (recorded together with Geoff Barrow of Portishead and his band Beak>) as solo works, as well as songs from her slowly building repertoire, giving the political, trashy, dub, punk, funk an edge of sinister dance.

Triggering tracks and layers, manipulating live, with a focus on the voice, diverted through varying reverbs and echoes, some sung, some spoken word, with reinterpretations of the first record, mixed in with Exploded View and some tracks completely new.

„A haunting performance that plays with different sound textures as well as stretching the capabilities of the voice for a truly dramatic and theatrical effect.“
