And even if there WASN'T context.... sometimes media makes you uncomfortable and that's okay. It's actually very very good for you to engage with media that makes you uncomfortable or makes you consider topics that are ugly and gross. This is giving very "it's fucked up that Gooseworx likes to make their characters suffer" energy in a rancid way.

I really think this whole purity culture thing sucks too, because it keeps people from telling THEIR OWN stories, or finding stories that resonate with them. Sometimes people write or make things as a form of catharsis, not because they condone it. Like, I truly do not know how else to express this point to you. Characters can, and should, be flawed and not just morally perfect people by default.

When you say that Ethel is constantly being "fixed", what does that mean? I always see the word fixed in quotes, so I've been curious about it.

Sure! I say it in quotes because if the "fixes" being done are almost always superficial non-issues to try and fit her into a very very specific mold. An example is the comic I made about her height being "fixed"

The truth of the matter is that she's frequently being taken apart and put back together to be more like the living Ethel, which is what's being considered a fix. This also includes trial and error to add features to make her seem more "human" that hold no real benefit to her because she isn't one. (Like trying to give her working tear ducts because the real Ethel was a crybaby)

Her body is made up from organic and inorganic material and her core does possess regenerative properties so she can "heal" from injuries but that doesn't mean the process of being taken apart and reassembled is any less awful and nightmare inducing for her.

I'm having a lot of fun, we are playing with female Strahd and some other changes to the module, but I went into this 100% blind knowing absolutely nothing about it besides "there's vampires" so I don't know exactly what has been changed.

Going in blind was really fun though because I had NO idea the character I made was such a.... relevant theme. She ended up connecting with Ireena a lot- I actually debated romancing her before the thing with Shiloh started happening LOL they have a LOT in common and Ethel understands her very complicated feelings on the countess. Ireena was also the one to point out the parallels between Marcus and Strahd and the person Ethel admitted something was very very wrong with Marcus to. Ethel has decided she is Ireena's personal body guard and refuses to let Strahd within 10 ft of her she goes full guard dog LMAO

Vasilka was also our fated companion from the tarroka reading, so she can speak and has a personality. Ethel connected REALLY strongly with her and is trying really hard to save her and convince her that marrying Strahd is not going to work. Unfortunately, Ethel is super jaded and filled with grief over her situation while Vasilka is still filled with hope and the idea that her story will turn out differently from Ethel's. Unfortunately Ethel then self-sabotaged to an INSANE degree by crashing out really hard after taking Vasilka away from the abbey (under the guise is taking her to Strahd) and kinda.... heavily trauma dumped about the medical horror she'd endured in front of everyone. (Unfortunately her crashout let to her feeling DEEPLY ashamed for having such a moment of weakness in front of the whole party but on the upside... nobody yelled at her for fucking everything with Vasilka up so badly because they can tell she is GOING THROUGH IT...)
