so i was scrolling down my dashboard & came across that post of yours. man i know exactly how you feel & i know how cutting the disappointment can be (even though i can't draw even half as good as you & i live nowhere near australia). if you dont mind me asking, what happened? also that picture looks fantastic & i'm sure tom will be THRILLED if he saw it
fjsdlfkgjfh you sent me an ask :’D I’m really glad you like my drawing!
But yeah, I haven’t been so deeply disappointed in months and months. Basically I saw Tom Hiddleston’s announcement that he would be coming to Sydney, and that he would be in Kinokuniya on Wednesday from 5-7 pm, where they would be distributing free Loki posters and he would be signing autographs and taking pictures. I was exceptionally excited for two reasons: firstly because Tom is my role model and personal inspiration; and secondly because for once he would be in Kinokuniya, Sydney, a place I had been to a number of times and knew I could get to after school (even though it would be an hour’s worth of travel).
So I very excitedly called up a number of friends and invited them to go with me. We worked out that my friend’s older sister’s boyfriend could get an entry pass at 10 am when they would be handing them out, but as always there was no guarantee. I spent the next week in a state of conflicting delirious joy and despair over the degree of uncertainty involved. By the end of the week I was exhausted from consecutive nights of poor sleep and diet (I lost my appetite).
I had been bracing myself for disappointment because it was clear that we wouldn’t really be able to get a place with all those people flying in from all over the Oceanic region to see him. What we hadn’t expected was that the security at Kinokuniya would cave and break protocol, allowing people to camp out from 8 pm the night before and handing out the entry cards early. We found out the following morning that all the passes were gone by 4:15 am.
Even then, we thought that we might be able to catch a glimpse of him and even maybe get someone with a card to give my drawing to him as a gift. Sadly, that afternoon a person there told us that the general area was completely full and the queue closed. At this point, I was no longer prepared to make the trip to the city on a number of levels, so I gave up and went home while three of my friends went to the city for fun anyway.
It was only in the evening when my friends got home that I found out they had indeed seen and heard Tom Hiddleston, albeit from afar. They had even taken many photos and videos. I think that was one of the most difficult things to accept. I’m still kicking myself over the fact that I could have at least been in the vicinity and seen what he was like for myself. But I chickened out and didn’t go.
So that’s my story. I didn’t see Tom Hiddleston, and I spent an afternoon and an evening unable to do anything but sit in front of my computer, scroll through his tumblr tag and wreck myself by looking at all the photos of everybody so happy and united in their experience of having been around this man who I adore and am moved by to the bottom of my heart. Needless to say, I used up my entire box of tissues. The unexpected circumstances surrounding the event let me down, but most of all I am disappointed in myself.
