👶 – as a kid, what were they like?

I’ve talked about Kevin many, many, times before, but honestly, you could fill a book with my thoughts on Kevin, so I’ll happily do it again. (Also, when I refer to Kevin, within replies and memes, I’m talking about Kilgrave before he took on his moniker, mostly during his childhood and teenage years. If I say “Kilgrave”, then I’m talking about him as an adult.)

There are two distinct halves to Kevin’s childhood – before he got his powers, and after. Before he got his powers, Kevin was a sickly child, but he still had a nurtured sense of his own self-importance. Because he was ill all the time, and dangerously so, everyone he knew was worried about him, and he was fussed over constantly. Even before his illness (which I headcanon to be JALS) progressed to a very serious stage, he was still sickly and weak enough to need to be taken care of, and this ingrained, in him, a sense of entitlement and an unpleasant selfishness. His parent’s lives revolved around him, and around keeping him alive.

Even though it was horrible for him, and he hated the hospital trips and the doctors and the surgeries – and especially later, when his parents took him out of mainstream hospitals, and tried to save him themselves – and he didn’t really understand why they were doing any of it, or that they weren’t simply torturing him out of sadism, their lives still revolved around him. And, over the decades, he’s airbrushed his own childhood, and only really remembers the pain and suffering they caused him, without remembering why they were doing it, or how ill he was.

So, before he got his powers, Kevin was a quiet, socially awkward, child. He was taken out of school at a very young age – so young, in fact, that his formal education stopped when he was about 8, when he got too sick to attend a regular school – and thus, developed very few social skills. His parents’ overbearing and proper attitudes meant that he had a very stilted manner of speaking, learned from them, and practically no empathy. He never felt loved by his parents. He felt valuable, but not valued, and that’s a very important distinction.

After he got his powers, all of those traits were magnified to a disgusting level. He became every Creepy Child trope. He wielded his mind control with all the selfishness of a normal child, with an added lack of empathy and shallow emotional framework. He often tormented his parents, the way he felt they had tormented him.

(For a quick example, from this Discord: “When Kevin had been a child, his father had wet himself in front of him. He’d been going on and on about needing to go to the toilet, but Kevin hadn’t looked up from his Nintendo, and just told him to be quiet. His mum and dad were standing there, watching him play Kid Icarus, and he had remembered telling them to watch a few hours ago. At the order, his dad had stopped whining, and there had been no sound except the click of his Nintendo controller. And then his mum had said oh, Albert. And then Kevin had looked over at them and seen it.”)

He got everything he wanted – toys, video games, clothes, food. He ate ice cream for every meal for days on end, until he got sick and forced his parents to take care of him. They acted out his every childish whim, his every impulse, and his shallow emotions never developed. He never really grew up from that point on, but his appetites changed to more grown up ones. His parents abandoning him had a profound effect on him, and he sought out other adults to take care of him, but never saw a real family dynamic in action. He invaded people’s homes, their families, and forced them to take care of him, but he never grew up.

I could go on forever about Kevin, but this is long enough already, so I’ll leave it here!

Isabella likes to think she’s not a jealous person, but that’s actually not true. She’s jealous of Barbara Gordon, because her friend seems to really have her life in order. She’s, in fact, a little jealous of all her civilian acquaintances – Karolina Dean and Iris West especially – because, in her mind, they have such pleasant and normal lives.

👰 – someone my muse would consider marrying

For a long time, Isabella thought she would marry Edward. She didn’t make any real plans to, but it just seemed inevitable. Though, of course, that’s probably not going to happen now, after everything they’ve been through. Honestly, Isabella would consider marrying Harley, but at the moment, that’s a childish daydream. She would never admit it to Harley.

👫 – someone who has a crush on my muse

“Having a crush on Isabella Flynn” is basically synonymous with “Harley Quinn” at this point. Harley thinks Isa’s amazing, and clearly has a crush on her. Harls is a.ways gushing about how beautiful and clever Isabella is, and it’s the cutest thing in the whole world. My shipper heart says that Ed still has a crush on Isa, but the writer part of my knows that’s simplifying it a little. Ed’s feelings for her too complicated to be called a crush.
