Cameron Lake from Wesley Ridge
The view from Mount Nystrom in Colorado. August 2020
One of the highlights in Bali was to wake up 5:30 am and do a sunrise ridge walk. It was so peaceful and tranquil. A must do if you visit Ubud ! * * * #earlymorningwalk #sunrise #hike #ridgewalk #peaceful #tranquil #leimomimanley #manleyluxury #jetsetter #indonesia #bali #ubud #getthebloodflowing #baliway (at Campuhan Ridge Walk) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5HrlBSn47a/?igshid=una5cmgh8l53

Great things happen when men and mountains meet......
Charts had been spread and after consulting the local cartography office it had been decided our loveable rouges would set out on a bit of a ramble, taking in Mount Holdsworth and Mount Jumbo with a nights stay in some luxury 5 star accommodation on route. A gentle tramp in the sunshine is what The Captain had promised The Hog taking in the highlights of Tararua Forest Park from the twisted birch to the craggy peaks, however, the events that were to unfold would be better suited to a running commentary by Michael Burke in his heyday. Blue skies and a gentle breeze christened their walk as the young blaggards set off foolhardy into the New Zealand wilderness with a bounce in their gait regaling stories of Tom Weir with his wee woolly hat and plus fours. Powell hut came and went without a hitch onward to Mount Holdsworth they strode, where once again our dearest Captain had a brush with the hideous beast of Omaru, the wind now getting some gusto they pushed onwards to the ridge where The Hog fell silent and the wind whipped the air from The Captains lungs, they were in over their heads and balanced on a knife edge, cliffs either side of them too far to turn back but still so far to go. The rain stung their faces like a hale of hedgehogs and the gales knocked them from their feet leaving them looking like it was closing time at the Ferry Inn. Things were serious and had spun out of control, they needed a plan and needed one fast. As we all know The Captain performs best under pressure (that's right ladies) and called on the deepest darkest recesses of his brain to worm out of this, with the wind whipping the words from his mouth 'human centipede' he cried and The Hog crouched and assumed the position! Two hours passed as they crawled alone along the knife edge in this fashion, a slip away from death, before they crested the final knoll and the glorious site of Jumbo hut beckoned them forth for a warm cup of cocoa and a roaring hot fire. Escaping with their bones intact and only their egos bruised they bid farewell to the north island and began their next adventure, tackling 74 kilometers of the famous queen charlotte track with tropical views and glorious sunshine they set about the the two wheel escapade without a hitch and this time The Hogs only prayers were for her saddle sores not for her life. The coast whistled past as they took in as they took in what delights the eastern seaboard had to offer, the New Zealand jungle seal, the beady eyed yellow penguin and of course the infamous beast of omaru! Christchurch came and went as did Dunedin and nugget point and as our favourite duo slept New Zealand grumbled and Mother Nature struck with a vicious ferocity tearing up the ground that just days before rolled beneath their wheels, once again they had escaped disaster and rode on their luck in these southern shores, they decided to make haste towards Fiordland with its soggy climes and sumptuous views.
