「 SHOW ME YOUR TEETH 」 🐉 commission for @riftwingdesigns
Custom dragon skull pipe for @riftwingdesigns 🖤💚🐲💀💚🖤 I’m stoked on how this came out but of course I forgot to take pictures of the coolest part before I sent it out 🤦♀️- the horns glow green in the dark! I really appreciate Gretchen being so patient with me while I struggled with some mental health stuff and took a super long time to finish this piece. People with CPTSD and/or ADHD can all probably relate to getting stuck on a project. Executive dysfunction and “getting lost in the weeds” are definitely things I struggle with regularly that especially get worse the more stressed I am feeling in life. It is so nice when my customers can understand that even tho I am a small business I am also only human. 💞🙋♀️ . . . . #skullpipe #customorder #originalcharacter #riftwing #glowglass #dragonskull #borosilicate #glassart #neurodivergentartist #naturebonestudio #customglass #glassdesign #flameworking #cptsdsurvivor #adhdadult #borosilicateglassart https://www.instagram.com/p/CgCaBkuuqRX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Riftwing Reference Sheet by RiftwingDesigns on DeviantArt
May I present my finished Riftwing dragon reference sheet! This took over a dozen drawings in procreate over a month, and it is something I’ve been putting off for a decade 😅 Remember, some things worth doing take a LOT of time, and it’s worth it.
Continuing to document my dragon, this drawing shows his maw, with lion-like features in his mouth and toxin propellant glands. Bonus points if you get the reference in the poison splat!
Made in procreate over a couple hours. And yes, I used a ton of references.
Making a kigurumi: Steps 3-4 - Step 3 - Choose fabrics for each part of the design. I got a lightweight black fabric with a leathery look for the body, fuzzy green for the wings for super snuggy hugs, and red with dimples for the inside of the hood, which will be his mouth. I bought 5 yards of the black, 3 yards of the green, and 1/2 yard of the red. It is probably way too much, but it’s always better to have too much than too little. Also, all the fabric was 40%-65% off from coupons (Joann) and store closing discounts (Hancock T_T).
Step 4 is to wash the fabric before use. But back to step 3... You’ll also have to think about miscellaneous materials that you will need. These are based on my sewing background, so I know I’ll also need:
White fleece for the teeth
White, yellow and black fleece for the eyes (unless I get my embroidery friend to make some for me, or go for painted... we shall see!)
Zipper for the front closure (some use snap buttons)
Closure clasp for the neck area
green horn material (wondering if I use sculpey, pipe cleaners, or more of the fuzzy fur?)
interfacing for the wings and hood
pocket zippers (I want access to my pants!)
Velcro for the leg cuffs (I want to be able to pull it off without taking off my boots, so thinking maybe velcro closures. If this fails, we can try elastic!
black thread (lots of it!)
sharp sewing scissors
a sewing machine (!) and I’ll probably use the serger on the seams
I’m probably forgetting a few things... we’ll find out as I progress! That’s the fun of doing your own pattern, you get to figure out how everything fits together. There will likely be mistakes and failures, but that’s part of learning.
Making a kigurumi: Step 2 - Create a design for the animal. Google is your friend. There are even patterns there, too... but I am doing my original character, so I wanted to start from scratch (using a robe pattern for the arms and hood, and “winging” (hahaha) the rest. Draw it multiple times. See what works. I tried having the dragon head all on top of the hood, but it would have been like having a plushie/stuffed animal sewn on to my head. As it is, I’m worried the nose and horns may weigh the hood down, so we may modify it as we go along. I also changed the eyes from closed (left) to open (right) since my outfit is black and the eyes, though cute, wouldn’t be visible closed.
What's in my name? I've decided on 'Riftwing Designs' as my shop name. Riftwing is the name of my dragon tattoo and is also an online name that I use a lot. It is typefaced similar to my signature - the R is vectored by myself, and the feather that forms the 'f' is also vectored. This feather has meaning as well: I feel a tie to crows and have designed my brand to be a crow feather, which is also a quill to reflect my love of writing. It's simple but means a lot. The feather will be the center of my shop brand.
The other letters in my name are using the free font "gotische minuskel 1269" by Paulo W from Brazil (sadly his website is no longer active). "Designs" is typeset in the free font "DICE".
