‘Come over.’
That’s all his text had said. Greer knew Riggs well enough to know that this kind of text wasn’t something to worry over, but something good. He was the kind of boyfriend who would surprise her when he could, and this was most likely one of those. She’d just stepped out of the shower after work and was about to text him to see if he had plans when she’d gotten his. She got ready as quickly as she could, not spending too much time putting on her makeup since she didn’t know what they’d be doing. Without even thinking twice, Greer packed some clothes into a bag, just in case she ended up crashing there. She was already keeping a toothbrush at his place at this point, and his laundry was constantly getting more and more of her own stuff in it. Greer knew this was probably all a sign that she’d be moving in soon, something that both terrified and excited her.
More than anything, she was glad to have an excuse to get out of her house tonight. Since Austin had come home, he’d taken back his dog, Cash, which meant her place was suddenly a lot quieter than it’d been for the past few years. It was odd, and Greer hated it. Spending time with Riggs was the perfect way to distract her from that, though, because she’d get wrapped up in him and how much she loved him. Most of the town didn’t get it, their on-again, off-again thing. Greer would never really understand why he loved her this much, honestly, but that didn’t stop her from embracing every moment of it. Once she was ready, she shot him a quick text saying she was on her way and headed over.
She had a key to his house, not that she needed it, because it was almost never locked if he was home. The little farm house tucked away on a corner of the Broughton farm had become something like her own. Over the past twelve years that they’d been dating, Greer and Riggs had talked about this house more times than they could count. Before he’d started renovating it, it was all big dream kind of plans. Once he came home from college, they got to work. Even when they weren’t together, Greer knew what was happening at the house. Now that it’d been finished for a while, she’d left her mark all over it, from picking out paint colors to buying throw pillows for the couch. Walking through the front door, Greer sat her bag down just inside. “Hey baby,” she called out, looking around for Riggs as she knelt down to scratch at Clover’s ears. “I sure do love you, Clover,” she said, burying her face in the dog’s neck happily. She looked up at the sound of her boyfriend’s voice, face filled with happiness at the sight of him. “My eloquent boyfriend,” she purred, standing up and resting her hands on her hips. “What kind of night are we looking at? Does this dress work or do I need to grab some jeans from your room?”
