((OOC update:
Social Anxiety Disorder has been kicking my ass but I think I’m coming out of this rut now-- just wanted to again say hi to everyone and the lovely people in this group I haven’t talked to yet, and wanted to make some notes on things I’ll be updating over the next couple of days. I’m pretty new to the aesthetics of the krp community, and I wanna learn how to do more stuff with text as well as make my blog look half as cool as everyone elses’ (lol) so I’ll be working on that this weekend. If anyone has any tips I’d love to hear ‘em!! I’m also looking to update my plots page with new prompts, as well as get some open rps running. And of course, I’m up for anything for the event!!
I’m also gonna work on a twitter so it’ll be easier for you guys to contact me ooc :)
TLDR; updating blogs and visuals and plots WOOO))
I have a post-canon notion that Theo, if she's still in the Boston area, makes an effort to have dinner with the Harrises at least once a week. (Allie is always pretty happy to see Aunt Theo even if Jayden is "too cool" to be much affected by his aunt's presence or absence.) Shirley doesn't explicitly invite Theo, Theo sort of invites herself, but it's understood as a healing of rifts between them that Shirley allows it (and expects her sister to show up).
After some time, when it seems like Theo and Trish might actually be a Thing, Shirley suggests that Theo bring Trish for the weekly dinner. Trish would come that first time conservatively covered up--Theo, eyeing Trish's outfit choice: "You don't have to hide your tattoos." Trish: "I'd like to make a good impression." Theo: "Trust me, you've already made an impression." Trish: "If it's a good one, I'd like to keep it that way."--but I can just imagine Allie bubbling over with questions the moment she spied the extent of Trish's tattoo collection--and Shirley's restrained observation of the entire exchange. (I wonder if Trish would have a prepared response to the curiosity of little ones.)
Trish joining the Harris family dinner becomes a regular enough occurence that when Trish doesn't show up, Allie will ask, "Where's Trish?"
The answer is usually some variation on "Trish is praying to the gods of Academia to help her finish a chapter of her dissertation."
The first time, Allie: "What does that mean?"
"It means Trish is working very hard and she's really stressed out. Or she's very stressed out because she's not working very much."
"I don't get it."
"It's okay. You might, one day. All you need to understand is that she's really stressed out."
"Then why didn't she come over and have fun with us?"
"Because she would have spent the time she was here worrying about all the work she wasn't doing."
"Oh. But then she could have cupcakes. Mom bought cupcakes!"
"Maybe I'll bring her one. How's that? I'll tell her you wanted her to have cupcakes. That'll probably make her feel better."
"Really?"
"Really."
And I also have this thought in my head that it's one of these family dinner visits where Theo and Shirley chill, maybe while the dishes are being done (by Shirley, lol) or sitting on the porch, that Theo says, "Trish told me she loves me."
Shirley sits quiet with a bit of shock.
Theo glances over, away again. "I mean, I knew. I knew she felt that way. Feels that way. She just hadn't said it."
Shirley considers. "What did you say?"
Theo shakes her head.
"You didn't say anything?" Shirley says, a little incredulous.
Theo looks annoyed, then troubled. "How do you tell the difference between love and gratitude?" Theo sends her sister a wary glance. "What if I'm just grateful that she... didn't give up with me? That she puts up with me?"
Shirley exhales. "That's... not nothing."
Theo sighs.
"I'm just saying that... you've never talked about anyone else before."
"... Yeah."
"... Do you love her?"
Theo squints ahead. "How did you know you wanted to marry Kevin?"
"Whoa, that is not what I asked."
"I know. I meant how did you know he was the one? How did you know you loved him?"
Shirley leans her head back. "He laughed at my jokes. And he made me laugh. And feel safe. He's... steady. Reliable. He... he was always my friend. And my partner." Shirley does not mention the fact that Kevin took the royalty money. She and Kevin talked about that already.
Theo nods.
"By saying she loves you, Trish isn't asking you to marry her, Theo."
"I know."
"So why are you leapfrogging ten steps ahead?"
"I can't think about it?"
"I think you should be able to tell her that you love her before you think about marrying her."
"Heh." Theo takes a sip. "Would you like her as a sister-in-law?"
"She seems nice. I don't know if I know her that well yet."
Theo nods. "You know, as in-laws go, I've always liked Leigh and Kevin." She pauses. "Arthur, too."
Shirley nods in agreement.
"I'd like to make a good choice, too."
"Theo, we'd be happy knowing you're happy. Hell, I'm thrilled you might actually be in a committed relationship."
Theo laughs. "Yeah. Yeah. Maybe we'll just see how well that goes, huh."
Shirley smiles. "It's a good first step."
Theo smirks, conceding. "Yeah."
