hi. i really, really need everyone to see this gif of someones frog i just saw on reddit
I keep seeing people say that the theme(s and such) of The Amazing Digital Circus was about “finding meaning in a stagnant world.” If that was the case, the show completely failed to convey that and utterly contradicted itself. The protagonists only became happy when Caine showed them that their original counterparts had changed and moved forward and when Caine changed the Circus to be nicer. You know, the exact opposite of stagnation.
But even then that would not change the fact that I find the idea of “finding meaning in a stagnant world” to just be a repulsive theme in general (maybe it’s because I played the Happily Ever After route of Slay the Princess, which actually does a great job of showing just how terrifying a stagnant existence can be). Because the real world is never stagnant no matter what people say, change is the only constant. You might feel that your life and the world never changes, but change can come at any moment, from a coincidence that happens to you to your own conscious efforts to change. Besides, shouldn’t we fight to change the world for the better instead of meekly accepting that this is as good as it gets? Add in the abuse apologism that runs through the narrative, it really feels like TADC is saying “stop being so uppity and just enjoy your miserable existence, don’t expect anything to get better, just shut up and try to enjoy it.” Yeah no, I’m going to keep changing myself and the world around me, because stagnation means unending misery, no matter how hard I lie to myself that the current world is fine. I’m not going to accept a permanent place in Hell, I’m going to go dancing under the stars.
Over the Garden Wall has done irreparable damage to my vocabulary because I now say "Ain't that just the way" in response to basically everything
i think that a key element of enjoying anything is also hating it with a passion
Me, about to be killed in a horror movie by a sweet looking monster: Oh sick creature design glad I got to see it up clo
