Do You Have The Right Tools?
It recently snowed where I live. Historically, I have been unprepared for the snow. I always find myself cleaning the car without the proper scraper, cleaning my driveway with a broken shovel, and freezing my face off without the proper clothes. I get things done but it’s ugly and sloppy.
It was different this time, I bought a little kit for my car. For the first time, I was fully prepared. Man, it was a different world. I had this cool little combo scraper/brush. I cleaned our cars in record time. Why didn’t I do that earlier?
I was reminded of many young American Christians.
God gave us the Church because sticks in a bundle cannot be broken.
God gave us The Holy Scriptures because faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
God gave us Pastors after His own heart to feed us with knowledge and understanding.
God certainly stacked the deck on our behalf. However, we tend to ignore His tools! We try an go at it alone. We are like the young man who walked into the Alaskan wildlife without any gear. We end up like Thor without his hammer and Steve Rogers without his shield. Christians regularly cry out after their failures and say, “God why did you allow this awful thing to happen!”
You were too much of a loner to join the church. Some of your problems could have been solved with fellowship. You decided not to use the tools at your disposal
You were too “busy” to study the Word, so you remained busy but ineffective. The wisdom that you needed was in a parable that Jesus shared. You decided not to use the tools at your disposal.
You were too proud to learn from the Pastor. He had something to share and you had something to learn. As a result, your spirituality stalled along with your emotional IQ. Your stagnation held you back from becoming the leader God called you to be.
Jesus said that His yoke is easy and His burdens are light. He promised an abundant life. All of that is true. We can use the tools at our disposable or stumble around on our own. The choice is ours.
